Located close to the action but far enough away to be quiet and secluded. The room was spacious and comfortable and the ablutions were modern. Breakfast is typically French and served with fresh coffee and juices.

The double room was very small. No wardrobe, drawers or cupboard for clothes, just a small rail. The furniture (what little there was) was tatty. It took 10 minutes for the hot water to reach the taps, the room heating was insufficient, and 3 small towels are not enough for 2 adults. Breakfast is expensive and the choice limited. All of the staff leave at 21.00, so if you need anything, or have forgotton your key...tough.

The hotel is in the old town. Public parking is 2 or 3 minutes away.

Very creaky floors and stairs, with paper thin walls. Could hear every use of surrounding bathrooms. Fortunately no honeymooners close by! Also, toilet roll holder not there. No restaurant in hotel, or bar, no coffee facilities in room.

Nice hotel with friendly helpful staff and comfortable bed and clean bathroom

There was nothing we feel we can complain about - the hotel suited us perfectly - I know some people feel the floor boards creak which is noisy - we live in an old cottage and that's the price you pay for character

The hotel had a lovely atmosphere and a real French feel. The location was perfect to access all the town had to offer. The staff were helpful and friendly

I booked the hotel specifically as it was advertised with parking. This is not the case, the car park is a public open air car park 1km away, with the one way system in La Rochelle, not easy to find. I'm only 1.65m tall and 70kgs and found the shower room unsuitably small.

Clean, nicely decorated room and quiet. Good location.

Owner very friendly and helpful with recommendations for food and days out. Superbly helpful when we realised we had left a few key items in the room! Contacted us and helped to arrange our collection of the items later in our holiday.

No view. Room MUCH smaller than on photo. Uncomfortable bed. Outdated and dark bathroom. Tiny shower. Noisy air conditioning. Unfriendly staff when checking out.

Exposed stone wall in bedroom is nice feature. Helpful telephone call informing us no staff would be onsite after 9pm and giving us entry code.

The building is antique and for this reasons the rooms are smaller than modern places. Our room was too dark and small. But this is something to take into account if you want to stay in an antique hotel. There is no elevator, this could be a problem if you have mobility problems.

Good location to visit la Rochelle, antique hotel, very helpful and kind staff. Good manue for value breakfast. Public Parking very close, free during the night, to pay from 9 in the morning.

The hotel has retained its beautiful spiral staircase which means no lift; could be a problem for some so ask for a ground floor or first floor room if necessary. Wooden floorboards throughout so some noise to be expected from corridors and adjoining rooms.

A charming and quirky hotel in a quiet side street in a superb location in the centre of the old quarter, close to the main square for local buses and about a 20 min walk to railway station and main port area. Good local facilities including the big indoor market and several nice restaurants close by. Very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are simply furnished and spotlessly clean, our bathroom was small but quite adequate. Excellent buffet style 'all you can eat' breakfast with a big choice. We would definitely stay here again.

Not a criticism, but be aware that there is no lift to accommodation floors, although management offered to have our cases taken upstairs.

We spent 2 nights at this small family-run hotel, which occupies an historic former merchant's house in a pedestrianised street and lies within easy walking distance of the old town and the harbour of La Rochelle. Clean and comfortable en suite bedroom with kettle, etc. Underground parking is available at Place Verdun within 100m of the hotel (take ticket on leaving car and hotel will give you an exit ticket for a small charge - E7.50 per day?). Very friendly staff who were always happy to answer questions, and quality and variety of continental breakfast were pleasing. Would recommend without reservation, and it would be my first choice for accommodation if returning to La Rochelle.

    Nothing really to improve upon.

What a great hotel - quirky and interesting, and lovely staff who were super helpful. Having stayed in a very average hotel a couple of doors up the road last year we were very happy indeed with this lovely hotel. It is in a fantastic location, only a 5 minute stroll past all the medieval part of town and shops to the harbour and loads of restaurants. Parking is very straightforward and close too - the Verdun underground car park is only about 200 yards from the hotel and the lovely owner of the hotel (Karin) was most helpful with the parking arrangement they have (7.50 euros per 24 hours).

There was no outside space to relax in but then it is in the middle of one of the streets off the market. The bedroom floor was creaky.

The staff were very friendly. Maria who greeted us after we had driven from St Malo could not have been more helpful. She was friendly, helped with our luggage and up graded our room when she realised there was still one available. We did not take breakfast in the hotel simply because we were so close to the market and wanted to sample what was available there, so we cannot comment on that. The hotel building dates from the 17th century. Its main feature is the staircase

There could have been a jacuzzi.... Oh wait, there was one! Absolutely nothing bad about this place.

Quaint little place in the heart of a charming town. Staying at Hotel de la Paix made La Rochelle the more beautiful and pleasant.

Central location - near Market. Hotel quirky with spiral staircase. Staff friendly and helpful. Short walk from bus station and 10 mins to Train Station. Under 10 mins to harbourside bars etc.

Cleanliness is poorly, no hot water, not good quality for the money, the tiniest room I've ever had. I called reception to assist me with the hot water issue she said she was busy alone with the breakfast

    Quite a decent location

The room was poorly decorated and the bathroom was too small and not very clean. The room had a sideboard taking up lots of floor space but the doors would not open. No wardrobe just a rail.

Only minor inconveniences: The breakfast room can get crowded, do-it-yourself orange juice, and somewhat disturbing modern-art paintings

Super-friendly and helpful staff, warmly-decorated rooms, real wood and stone, and comfortable beds and blankets.

    Our bathroom was very small

The breakfast was very good, a wide range of breads, inc. gluten free, pastries and cakes, a massive selection of jams, yoghurts, fresh oranges with juicer to squeeze yourself, scrambled egg and cold meat and cheese. A large range of teas and fresh fruit. Location was very good, short walk to harbour. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
