I really liked the hotel. It’s a 2-star hotel so if you want 5-star luxury then go and stay in a 5-star hotel !

If you want a reasonably inexpensive hotel in the heart of Bordeaux old town, with fabulous staff then this is the hotel for you. OK, so it doesn’t have A/C, the breakfast not extensive and the rooms are not massive, but the location and staff makes up for this. We had a fabulous 4 nights stay in this hotel in June 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Many thanks, Dr Laurence Dunn, from UK

This is a solid choice in the price range. The room was very clean and comfortable, but basic. The location was perfect for seeing the city, and was very quiet for a street facing room. Breakfast included a fresh selection of breads and tasty croissants, cereal, cheese, meat, and fruit. The staff speak English and are very friendly and helpful.

Placed in room near elevator and breakfast room, heard a lot of noises in the evening and all morning. Our friends were placed on 4th floor, it would have been nice to be closer to them. Also put sign on the door ( do not disturb), came back to room and maid has come into the room and moved our things around- I didn't like that as I specifically put sign on the door.

The location of this hotel was great. Staff are nice. Pretty clean place.

We chose to take the breakfast option at 8 euros each for a buffet style but got fed up with waiting for food to be put out.

For those who have dodgy knees like my friend lift is essential, but layout is such that using the lift is nigh on not worth the effort. Strange behaviour of staff as regards to eating breakfast off tray in breakfast room was baffling to say the least.

More information needed about location. Spent time trying to find it then realised in a pedestrian precinct. Would have been useful to know and also location of nearest underground parking. Concierge said we could have driven up to hotel to unload but admitted not practical on a very busy Saturday in August. Lift does not go to all floors.

The carpets were filthy in the rooms and public areas. There was no kettle in the room which we really needed As we were travelling with a baby. The fan didn't work and as there was no air con it would have been nice to have it working. We had to ask for a cot even though we said we were travelling wth a baby when we booked. We picked one up and reception but they didn't provide a sheet so we couldn't use it for the first night. When we booked we asked for a lower level room because of the pushchair, but we were on the 3rd floor and there is only lift access to the second. However, the staff were so friendly and the guy who checked us in (we did ask his name but we can't remember it now) was so helpful! When we asked for hot water he explained that we could use the breakfast room whenever we needed, and he was happy to recommend places for us to eat. Very nice man! Just not a great hotel for travelling with children.

Some of our friends have problems with the parking, parking Clemenceau, because automatic parking cashier doesn´t work allright an they have to claim, claim to do from Spain. The taxi we ask in the hotel was much more expensive than the one which took us to the hotel. This cost us 35,00 € and the taxi of the hotel 50,00 €, at 7,00 a.m. on sunday in a desert city. I think The hotel must be careful with the services it arranges for the customers

I deliberately booked hotels with parking, but on arrival we had to sit two streets away, then reception said they didn't actually have any; it was their sister hotel's car park a few miles away. This was annoying as I'd driven from Madrid on a twisted ankle. The lift started at the first floor so cases were dragged up poorly carpeted stairs. Anyway, the rooms were tiny, think of a hostel rather than a hotel, lots of mezzanine levels with paper thin walls, so you could hear people in the loo etc. The night porter enjoyed a sweet smelling roll up cigarette, chatted loudly on mobile phone while serving us. He chatted loudly in the street at night, and it was a little bit reminiscent of faulty towers. Anyway the location is excellent so as long as you don't get hot (no air con) and get very drunk, you could probably cope.

The location is the only positive thing about this hotel.

The condition of the room was diagusting, shabby and dirty. Although the location is excellent, the noisy street where the hotel is placed on demands a proper noise isolation that the hotel clearly lacks. I can absolutely say that the Gambetta ihas been the worse hotel I've ever stayed in.
