Unfortunately, it was not possible to have dinner outside. The room for breakfast was quite dark.

Nice location, quiet room. The double bed was small and too soft in the middle. The dinner was of good quality. You can do a nice short walk in the valley. About 1 km to the 'Petit source', if you want you can follow the difficult track on the other side of the river back to the village.

The hotel is located down the valley after Arbois, in the middle of the forest and tuff cliffs. Behind the hotel is possible to also visit a beautiful waterfall. The staff was very kind and nice, the room was cozy with a spectacular view over the forest. We stayed in the restaurant of the hotel for dinner and we were very satisfied. Excellent location, food and wine.

Swimming pool is located nearby the reception, means quite some traffic around. But pool water is heated: super nice! Lightning of toilet and bathroom is automatic (with detector). Nice gadget, but not very convenient when you get up at night (lightens up the room).

Bread for dinner: exceptional! Dinner menu at 45€ was really very good! Fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast, home made jams, good coffee, large choice buffet. We like the quietness of the place, and the noise of the waterfall...

Amazing hotel, room and restaurant. Do not miss the exceptional walk to the Cascades and Petite Source. There is also a small road to Arbois, suitable for walking so you can do a wine tasting or have a long and truly gorgeous lunch at Maison Jeunet.

We had a superior room and it was quite disappointing. For the price the quality was very low, run down room, quite dirty and smelly, uncomfortable bed and pillows. I was recently travelling through France & Italy and for same price we stayed in beautiful, high quality accommodation.

The property and surroundings are beautiful! The restaurant is fantastic!

At first you would think that the hotel is nothing special, due to its outside appearance and reception area. The hallway to the rooms could do with a little renovating, but once you get to your room you will be surprised how beatiful they are. Without their first class restaurant this hotel would receive less favourable reviews.

The setting of Castel Damandre is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. Beds are soft and comfortable and will guarantee a good nights sleep. At night you can hear the flow of the nearby waterfall and its only a ten minute walk from the Cascade du Tuffs and its lovely valley. Breakfast is plentiful and of very high quality. Take a seat at the window and watch the flowing waterfall of the old mill. Evening meals are either a set menu or ala carte. The cuisine is of the highest standard. The wine list is extensive and you will have a choice of regional wines or other french regions.

Staff in resturant were very impersonal, reciting description of dishes as from a script and making no attempt to answer questions. All resturant staff disappeared halfway through the service, when several couples were waiting, and then thought laying tables up for the next day was more important than bringing the next course. Disappointing for a 60 euro menu. Would have been nice to have drink making facilities in bedroom.

Room had no airco or fan. No summer-duvet. It was very hot. We opened the cross windows for breath of coolness - we were an easy target for bugs and mosquitoes. No shower hook or curtain. You had to sit in the bath tub to was yourself. No comfortable chair to sit in your room. It was clearly for sleeping only. Wifi reception in room was decent but sometimes not so strong. Breakfast lacked good strong coffee and variety of breakfast was too minimal (same selection everyday, only sweetened cereals. Swimming pool is very small, easily overtaken by families with young children.

Staff was very friendly. Feeling of small family hotel. Lots of trust (open doors). The bed was firm, but comfortable; various pillows, but duvet too warm (for summer). Room decor tried to air "castle style". Room and bathroom very clean.

Breakfast was below par in comparison with the rest of the hotel and dinner. No service between 2pm and 6pm...not a person in sight. Suggestion...people usually have lunch between 11.30 and 2pm. Arrive and check in around 3.30pm - then the only service available again for a drink or to eat is only from 7pm - dinner at 7.30. I suggest they have some kind for late afternoon snacks or drinks available between 3.30 and 6.

This place has the most idyllic surroundings. We were a bit unsure from the pictures about the rooms but upon arrival it was a delightful surprize that the entire room had been renovated with a great new, clean walk in shower, large vanity and seperate toilet room. The rest of the room was decorated with a lovely nod to the history of the place and yet clean and comfortable. Also the farm fresh eggs and fresh baked bread for breakfast was the best! Great Spot!

There were NO facilities at the hotel, no bar no restaurant it was like a building site. I am quite sure it will be a lovely hotel when finished. But, next time, they should consider the travcellers.

They should never have accepted the booking, the hotel was being renovated with all furniture placed in reception area. We were given an annexe room which was fine and we booked for dinner. 2 hours later we were told dinner was cancelled - technical problem!! Only 2 bookings I suspect. We had to take a taxi into town and find a restaurant.

Very few of the staff speak or understand English. Some knowledge of French is important for the visitor.

This hotel is situated at the head of a valley, surrounded by high, tree-clad hills and flanked by a lovely waterfall. I have seldom seen a more idyllic location. The hotel consists of a group of buildings surrounding what appears to be a old mill and is built in the style of a medieval manor, but with the added facility of a heated swimming pool. Our room was large, well appointed and very comfortable, with a tiled floor (important, I would think, on a hot summer day) and a very large bed. The hotel is quite isolated and very quiet at night. However, it was quite full during the whole of our 4 night stay and the restaurant usually had to be pre-booked, as the Castel Damandre is a known as a destination for lovers of wine and fine dining. The breakfasts were huge and delicious, well stocked with local breads, hams etc. and the breakfast room looked out onto a grassy terrace through which flowed the cascade of the waterfall. It would be a great location for walkers, hikers etc. We were well looked after during our stay and I would love to be able to return one day. The only down side (for us) was that very few of the staff had any understanding of English. Some knowledge of French would be an advantage for the visitor.
