How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Verified reviewLa Marjolaine is in an old mansion. It's it renovated with much taste. The room was large and nice with very good beds and a great bathroom.
The hotel is managed remotely, so there is no reception desk and no staff was present when we arrived. Everything including breakfast reservation works remotely. In the morning a staff member was there to prepare the breakfast and clean the rooms. I would personally prefer to meet a human at arrival. Guests cannot control the airconditioning themselves (which was set rather cold). We called the service desk who then adjusted it. So practically there was no problem. Breakfast is not a buffet and I found it a little expensive. But it was certainly fine and enough.

Had some problems with access and pin codes when we first arrived. A second chair in the room would have been good. Weather wasn't good when we stayed but had it been we would have liked some seating in the garden.

The only minor issues were that the room description states all rooms have tea and coffee making facilities - mine didn't (chambre 1). The breakfast room had a kettle with t-bags etc but no milk which I had to go out and buy locally. Also the description of "Additional features including microwave and refrigerator" etc clearly relates to a specific room not for general use. These are minor points but the room descriptions could be a little more specific. Apart from that I would absolutely recommend for a stay/stopover.

The description of each room clearly shows all the amenities available, but there is no mention of these amenities. However, coffee and tea are freely available all day in the breakfast room, as indicated in the message you received before your arrival. We note your comment regarding milk. We cannot offer dairy products that would be left at room temperature all day, but we understand the inconvenience. We offer breakfast every morning with a wider selection of drinks and snacks. There was not enough cutlery for 4 people and the WiFi didn’t reach to the top floor to be reliable so the lounge tv wasn’t any use.

Verified reviewWe had the top floor apartment and it was very clean and comfortable. Two good sized bedrooms with excellent black out blinds. Well equipped kitchen. Good parking.
I wasn’t sure how to lock the door as the key was on the outside on a metal chord so I pulled it onto the inside of the door!

Verified reviewA very comfortable bed in this small room on the ground floor, with convenient off-road parking just outside.
The room is very small considering the price we paid. Possibly the price was inflated due to the Tour de France arriving the same day. There are no staff on site, and we unsuccessfully tried to make complicated arrangements for storing our medicines in a refrigerator. Hotel rooms of this category should be equipped with a refrigerator. And for two persons, it would be nice to have two glasses for drinking water, instead of just one!

Further out of town than advertised (ad says 400yds but it’s nearer a mile). The AC in the room (weather was very hot) was not on and there was no remote control. I asked through the App messaging how to get it to work, when we got back from dinner it was on, which was good, but then it went off around 3am and we were too hot. I assume it is controlled remotely over the internet by the owner to reduce energy bills but this is a very unsatisfactory arrangement.

It was difficult to understand the check in and took very long. The staff for check in and check out were remote so we had to call them. Staff that picked up the phone did not speak English, but later she gave to her colleague who could communicate with us. very confusing. Also had to pay extra deposit only to receive the codes for the doors. No doors for the bathroom...I personally do not enjoy sleeping next to the shower space.

A bit of confusion when we arrived. Use the keypad on the left to open the front door, then on the room key box inside hinge the black cover down to expose the keypad. The weather was warm but we survived despite not having a remote control for the Aircon. I WhatsApped but didn't receive a reply. I parked behind the house as it seemed a bit exposed from the road. On a Sunday there is not much open around so we walked to McDonald's.

Being a hot day the room was very warm with no option to turn on air conditioning. Could not open windows as insects entered the room. Sheets were old & prickly. No fridge. No facilities in room or kitchen to make tea or coffee. Our room was located across from kitchen & right near entry door, therefore, noisy in the morning.

Verified reviewAccess was impossible when we arrived. The necessarily details had not been forwarded to us. All we had was a recorded message which we could not understand. We were about to leave when a Belgian couple arrived. They had the same problem- didn’t have the code to get into the house and our room. Because they spoke French they contacted the owners who supplied the necessary information. Shouldn’t have to do this.

The garden was not attended to. Needed weeding and adding some flowering plants. And maybe a table and chairs to relax outside. Then you could charge at least €10 more for a room.
