One-way streets in Narbonne make driving in old town difficult, until you get used to it. GPS not always helpful. Hotel small parking garage an ordeal to get in and out, unless you're driving a small car. Room on courtyard a bit noisy in the morning.

Excellent location. Decent rooms and breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff.

Rather a detached welcome. No suggestion of booking a table for a meal. Needed to reserve a table but no one available to take the booking so went elsewhere. Not great value for money

Having to Pay the standard €10 taxi fare for a 2 minute ride to the rail station. Rooms are a bit small if you want to have drinks and some nibbles in the room. Water in the shower was tepid.

Lovely English lady who owns it was exremely friendly and welcoming. Room was excellent and bathroom great. Gave good advice on where to do and what to do. Like many travellers in France at present we were accidental visitors as were stuck by the rail strike before going to Barcelona next day. A very pleasant stopover. Breakfast was quite nicely presented and value for money

The room was good but the noise at night was terrible...we did not sleep very well, hotel advertised as pet friendlly. This was not the case the breakfast staff were ill mannered and made us feel unwelcome, and seated us in a corner out of the way, consequently we rushed our breakfast.

Hotel was overall good and location was good with the evening receptionist .patricia very helpful and nice

The courtesy tray is a nice touch in a Frnch hotel, but why not better teas? There are such great teas available in France, so perhaps be a bit more adventurous! But otherwise everything was great.

The staff were all very charming and friendly. The room was well-appointed. I'd booked late and asked for a room with a bath if possible, and I got one, which was great.

The staff were extremely helpful, especially with information about the area. They were happy to advise us about local restaurants, and were willing to book them for us. Fantastic ambience around the market and canal area. The hotel was central, and convenient for sightseeing. The local free bus was a great discovery, especially with getting us to the local stadium/theatre area.

There is not much space to relax in the hotel if there are lots of guests, as there is only the one small but very nice lounge and then the restaurant seating. The hotel is great though.

We were upgraded without a fee and the hotel is adjacent to an amazing cathedral and walking distance to the canal, shops and the market. The hotel staff went out of their way to book us a taxi which was brilliant!

    Nothing. Great stay

The location is 12-15min on foot from the train station. Its a flat safe walk, past several rental car shops. Taxis will charge you 10-15 euro. Narbonne is lovely. The hotel is located near most of the sights not far from the canal and in the old city. It is a quiet area - we did not use the air conditioning as it was October, and slept with one window open/louvers shut. Wifi was good. The hotel provides complimentary croisssants and coffee/tea in the afternoon in the breakfast room. There are two types of breakfast: Buffet 12E and light 6E(juice, warm drink and croissant). Staff speak either excellent or very good English. Hotel appearance and interior is excellent. There are about 5 steps into the building then there is a lift (about 3 floors high). Cheaper rooms are located on a mezzanine floor which means about 10 steps. A BNP machine is located 50m away on the canal end of the street on the right. Hotel staff will inform you where restaurants are open. This time of year they take turns being shut monday and sunday. Please note: ALL the museums in Narbonne (and I believe most of France) are shut on Tuesdays! Keep your walking around/canal rides for those days. Tourism office (located 100m away - turn left at the canal), can help you arrange a taxi to the Abbey.

There was nothing to complain about - everything was perfect.

Breakfast was well worth the 6 euros with plenty of choice. The room was quiet and the shower was perfect for my needs, as I am partially disabled. The hotel was very clean, as were the sheets and towels. The staff were exceptionally friendly and no request was too much trouble.

The hotel is close to the city center. There is a terrific breakfast in the morning, and free coffee/tea and snacks in the afternoon. The room was sparkling clean, the staff were great and their is discounted parking onsite. It's a little tricky to find if you are driving, but worth the search.

Although the location was great and the breakfast lovely, I felt rather short-changed here. We paid the highest possible price (they were priced at 95-135 euros each) for rather small and very smelly rooms. They didn't live up to the pictures, and we felt like we'd been given the worst rooms in the hotel. I don't think we should have ben expected to pay 135 for them, especially as I was being offered rooms at the hotel on booking.com for 81 euros on my phone (couldn't cancel and re-book by then...). This is the only time I've felt lost down by a booking.com room.

Great location and breakfast. Nice staff.

Breakfast could be improved with perhaps a more substantial offer to justify the cost.

Excellent hotel in a central yet very quiet location. Proximity to the railway station meant that day trips further afield were easy - so its a good 'base camp'. Spacious and well equipped bedrooms and very friendly and helpful staff.

    No view from my room.

My single room was very small, but adequate. The location of the hotel was great and I enjoyed the local sights. Because I was also there on a Sunday, I was able to visit the market held next to the river and grabbed an inexpensive scarf for the rest of my trip.

Visitors should be prepared for the small rooms. ( no room for stretches or situps!) We missed sorely needed body lotion (windy and sunny - very dry) and shampoo. The soap dispenser is located too high to reach if you have settled down to a leisurely bath. There are bath and hand towels, but no washcloths.

Location was ideal. The hotel was very close to the Cathedral, the beautiful canal and locks, the Roman storage and roads. Good restaurants and cafes also nearby! Government offices were also just a block or so away. The train station was about 1/2 mile away, so very convenient for tourists. We were drawn to la Residence because of its historic value and commitment to environmental values - recycling, efficient water and energy use. Breakfast was a generous buffet of locally sourced food/incredients.

The a/c pumped out hot air instead of cooling the room, and the property is definitely not accessible for anyone with mobility issues. Skip the 12 euro breakfast, there are cheaper options nearby.

The property is in a good location, close to everything but on a quiet street. The room and bathroom were a decent size and the decor was nice.

Wardrobe was big but we needed more draw space for smaller items of clothing. A safe in the room would have been helpful but there was a safe at reception. Leaving!

Perfect location; near canal, near restaurants, near tourist information, near public transportation, near everything yet located in a quiet turning. There isn't a view of the canal from the hotel but we had a good view of the street below our window. The hotel looks stylish inside; large fireplaces and high ceilings with chandeliers in every room. There were lots of contemporary touches in the decor, so definitely not cluttered with reproduction stuffiness. Breakfast was generous and varied. Snacks and fresh fruits were provided during the day at no extra cost. The room was large and comfortable. The ensuite was a good size and had a good shower. All the staff were wonderful; they were knowledgable about the attractions and restaurants and created a home from home environment. We will definitely return to hotel La Residence.

I missed scrambled eggs and bacon to breakfast.
