    Everything was good.

If you want to visit the caves this is a great place to stay. It is a 20 minute walk to city centre and only a short walk to some great caves.

Breakfast was an additional €8 which was a lot for a piece of bread, a croissant and some cereal or fruit. A five minute walk will get you to a commercial centre with cheaper options.

Huge room, well decorated. The beds were very comfy, even the children’s beds (which are not always as good as the adult ones). Our tall 13 year old was able to stretch out in comfort. Good location for the wine caves, a gentle stroll meant no driving after an afternoon of tours and tasting. The car park was an added bonus. However, it is about a 20 minute walk into the main town. There wasn’t a great choice of restaurants in that particular area- especially with children who prefer easy, simple food. It’s a straightforward walk and meant I could eat dessert without feeling guilty!

30min walk to Saumur, with only two local taxis. But despite this it was a quiet and safe walk home.

Welcoming hosts, who despite not speaking English were hospitable and welcomed us with open arms. Beautiful rooms, absolute gems, immaculate and the kids loved the cupboard bunk beds. Genius!

No fan or air-conditioning in the room, very hot, had to use shutter to avoid bug ingress. Room was tired. Hair dryer failed to work, shower head refused to stop sliding down its pole, taps dripped unless turned tightly off. Place felt deserted in the evening.

We were there during a heatwave and our room was top floor with a velux window. No aircon so hot at night (fan was provided! But noisy to leave on all night)

Clean and comfortable, newly refurbed ensuite shower room with good water pressure shower. Good sized room A 20 (for faster walkers) -30 minute walk from Saumur town centre, but not unpleasant - 5 or 10 mins bike ride, as close to the velo trails. Roadside location in small village, close to the Loire, west of Saumur itself. Breakfast was listed as continental with no meat, cheese or egg options so we didn't have it and therefore can't comment on its quality.

Room fairly basic-ie no kettle. House keeping didn't knock, walked in on us still asleep after a long day travelling! Room information booklet said items at our disposal included a laptop/ inet access in the bar, our sat nav had died, needed to login but when we asked for the laptop were told it's not for guests! Wifi code provided has time limit of 6 hours?! Extractor fan in bathroom on permanently- quite noisy but with door shut and we were so tired didn't prevent sleep. Towels a little small and old- ie not the softest lol Arriving on a Sunday all the little shops nearby were shut til Monday afternoon- so head straight for town- 20ish min walk.

Good for bikers- after enquiring about parking at time of booking we were provided with a garage key at check in- just beware cars often park in front of them though! Good communication pre arrival and about check in (although it was always in French so I needed Google translate!)

I didn't like anything about it. Tiny room, nothing to do with the pictures I had seen... There was no air in the room, it was too hard to open that inclining window, and the man at the reception was not helpful... difficult to move around the bathroom without knocking my head, bed was not comfortable and worst of all I found other people's hair in the sheets! Definitely did NOT worthbthe 57 Euro!!!!

What did I like? That it has a roof over my head, perhaps?

One thing: it has a very comfortable location to Caves...

After staying at this hotel for 2 ice-cold nights in the beginning of February, I am really wondering where all these great points & reviews come from?? Looking at the hotel pics again, I have this gut feeling that most of the rooms are renovated & nice, but my room was apparently one of those old and worn out rooms? I found two French-speaking reviews concerning Hotel Le Canter where the writers seemed to have exactly the same experience with the attic room. Anyway, a bad experience! I travel in France 4 to 6 times every year and normally tend to ask for a room from upper floors, in hope of having a nice(r) view. At this hotel, my room was on the attic, and oh boy, it was so cold that I slept with all my clothes on and did not feel like having a shower on either of the mornings. The corridors in the hotel were ice-cold, and the bar/breakfast room far away from cozy (also the price for such a simple breakfast was way too high), being crowded with noisy local people on other of the nights. Instead of nagging here, it is true I should have complained to the hotel staff face-to-face, but I felt they were very distant: in every other hotel during my 10-day trip people asked in the morning something nice like "bien dormi?". Here not. Also the price of my very basic and slightly smelly room felt high (especially compared to the predecing nights I spent in a beautiful modern hotel in the heart of Angers). In summer this Hotel Le Canter is surely nicer, but in winter: be prepared that it's a long way to the centre of Saumur (yes, I was aware of that after booking the hotel), but when you realize it's impossible to find a place to eat dinner in the nearby hoods of the hotel, you decide to opt for the historical center of Saumur the next time. (I am well aware that off-season and Monday can be a challenging combo in France, but the difficulty in finding a place to eat felt like the top of the iceberg on that night.

One thing: it has a very comfortable location to Caves Ackerman!
