Great hotel to stay for those who want to spend several days in Alsace
    • Leisure trip

    • Family Room with Garden View
    • Stayed 3 nights

A room we got a bit small for 5 (2 parents + 3 kids), however the rooms size is known at booking during the reservation, so it wasn't a surprise.

We arrived late in the evening when the reception was already closed, however the entry code and the room key were ready for us in advance on the reception table. The room is very clean and has renovated bathroom. The breakfast is very tasty and always fresh. The hotel staff is very friendly, I'd would say even just wonderful! Very good location - located on the Alsace Wine Route and close to main family attractions.

The size of the room could have been a bit bigger, although still acceptable. At first the bathroom exhaust fan didn't work, but later it kicked in. The three-story villa did not provice of an elevator - on the other hand the staircase was so spacious that it wasn't a burden to carry the luggage up and down. All in all those drawbacks were minor issues and didn't spoil the overall very positive experience.

Beautiful spacious interior in King Louis style. Friendly atmosphere, wide corridors and staircase, free parking on the hotel property, perfect location (our restaurant was just across the street and the town center only a block away) and free high speed internet that was easy to set up. Barr is a perfect place to discover Strasbourg, the Vosges mountains and the Alsace wine country. We loved it and will be back!

Well breakfast is REALLY much to be yet improved: There has been only filtered coffee offered, so not very much to my taste. The selection of vegetables is non-existent. During two day stay in the hotel, the same very old tomatoes have been offered and these just looked dreadful, it was shame to offer those to the customers. The bread selection could be improved, as well as the egg selection (poached or scrambled added). Some fish and some better spread selection would be nice Be careful when selecting the room, since some are extremely small, our case exactly. There is something I do not understand with the hotels world-wide, what is the problem with the water? One has to let water through for the 5! minutes in order to get a comfortable temperature.

We are family of 3, travelling with the 2 yr old toddler. For us it has been exceptionally important to have something for the child to do, the hotel has 1) playground in the yard, which a 2 yr toddler can use for 1 hour least. 2) there has been a baby bed offered as well as the seat during the breakfast. The staff has been very helpful. Hotel has nice location, the windows are changed therefore it is rather warm inside. The hotel is quiet, however because of the visitors, since it is rather poorly noise-isolated, but we still had a good-night sleep. It is not intended for the disabled people, so we could not bring in our buggy inside and stored this in a car. Because of the location and the playground and the general atmosphere in and out I would definitely try this hotel for the next time but definitely booking other room (preferably with balcony, then it is looking west to the wineyards), otherwise it has been very small for us three and it was not very cosy, the bed was just enough for 2 and to my opinion just too hard. Another tip is entirely not related to the hotel, but to the surroundings. The search for the food and restaurants has been a true quest. The partner restaurant just opposite the hotel does not work on Mondays (the day of our stay), in fact all restaurants if these are to be open on the day, are opening since 7pm at night, which is for a family with kids just toooooo late! Finally we could find just a pizza. The other shops we have been browsing have very poor selection of wines, cheese etc for which France and Alsace is well spoken for.

There was no coffee - apart from with breakfast and late afternoon in the lounge. I would recommend the hotel provides a facility to get hot drinks at any time of the day (or night). It only needs to be an electric kettle and aNespresso machine or similar (better still facilities in your room). For 100 euros a night it is simply not acceptable to have no access to a hot drink. Breakfast costs an extra 10 euros per person which, given the food on offer, is not good value (e.g. Fried eggs with burnt edges kept warm in grease throughout the breakfast period). The hotel owner is generally miserable and unfriendly and on one of our 3 evenings was simply absent from the hotel all together. We wanted to buy a bottle of wine (which the hotel advertises as a service) but had to resort to walking down to the local pizza takeaway to buy the last bottle that they had available as there were no staff in the hotel at all. Again, simply not acceptable service for well over 100 euros per night.

Interesting French style of hotel with comfortable but quirky rooms and styling - but some further modernisation is definitely required. Nice garden - but very under utilised by the owner (e.g. No food or drinks served there). Good location very close to the centre of the lovely old town of Barr. There are quite a few nice restaurants nearby - which is essential since the hotel only serves breakfast (i.e. No evening food at all).

Bathrooms are very tiny with only enough room for one person at a time. A member of our party had to leave the bathroom door open in their room. Unfortunately the d.bed was small and the mattress well used so one rolled into the middle.

Beautiful house in the middle of the plot offering secure parking. A breakfast terrace, great for the summer but sadly not quite warm enough on this stay. The owner and team were very accommodating; we received better service here than the 5* Hotel we had used in Belgium. The breakfast was varied, plentiful and v.good quality. A nice touch was the heart shaped hottle water bottle not that the room was cold so it was not needed but appreciated. Good quality towels. We would stay again but would request single beds or a larger double. We also enjoyed our meal at their restaurant (1 min walk away). Excellent food and service. Thank you.

Room was a bit small, and I would have liked a desk in it. The "closet " space behind the curtain could be used better or differently, I think (it was space I didn't really use.)

The general "old world" style of the hotel, the furnishings, the view from my balcony ! I loved the dining area, always open, and that they offered afternoon tea . Breakfasts were very good, and the staff nice. I also liked the twinkling lights on the trees at the backof the hotel in the evenings -made it a bit magic !

Barr is a very unexciting village. The towncenter has some nice streets but it's hard to find a bar where you can sit outside and relex. The most vivid place seemed to be a take away pizzeria with bored people hanging around. The bed in my room definitely needed a new matress.
