Couple of teething touches really. We stayed in room 3 and it has an excellent view of the kitchen roof.. This probably should have been on the room information as I would have paid a little more to upgrade for a "view"!! The grounds are exceptional and we could not see them from our room. The waste on the bath leaked but that was down to it probably not being tightened correctly. I think we were the first people to use the room. The coffee maker requires a small espresso cup to use as the cups supplied are too big to fit under the machine. A small fridge with milk would complete the room. The furnishings, towels and decor are finished off really well.. and high quality.

Manager (Peter) and his Staff were excellent. Very customer focused, nothing was too much trouble and the Staff are capable, professional and most of all - HAPPY.... something that is sadly lacking in the hospitality trade in the U.K presently. Although only open a little over a week the Team at this establishment appear to have got "Service" bang on from the start..! The Chef and kitchen team prepared some very very tasty dishes- we ate on two evenings and food was great!! A seperate Residents bar with complimentary whisky and brandy was an excellent touch.. Gin would make it even better!! 😜The free toiletries in the room are L'Occataine...lovely touch!

The water stopped flowing halfway through a shower and was barely a trickle the next morning went I went to wash and brush my teeth. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room too.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location is stunning. The room was large and comfortable.

Returning on the (bitterly cold) Saturday evening (at 11.15) and finding the door locked and the hotel in darkness, as a 73 year old female, not in the best of health and not having my car with me, I was near to panic, when, by luck, I was able to alert the owner, whose reaction verged on the amused. His comment was to the effect 'well, we thought you were in and you're in now, so what's the problem' - he even seemed reluctant to make me a cup of tea!! Frankly, words fail me, suffice to say that I found the experience (and its potential outcomes) so alarming I have only now, 3-4 weeks later, felt able to write about it. I await your response with interest.

The plumbing! Having moved from our first room (the one with the dodgy toilet) we were moved into a room with a crack in the ceiling which dripped water whenever water was used in the bedroom above. Also, there was function which went on until midnight. The thumping of the music made sleep impossible until after it had finished, We were told about the function soon after booking but assured that noise would not be a problem. It was.

We loved the first bedroom we had booked until the toilet broke down and we had to move. The location is wonderful. The Housekeeper did a great job coping largely on her own at the start of breakfast.

    • Couple

Two ridiculous policies: 1. no front door key given on checking in. This meant we had to ask when we went out..being sat night we were going to be back late. We were made to feel like teenagers when we asked. 2. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We had to go down 2 flights of stairs, ask for 2 coffees, wait for them to be made then carry them back up the stairs. Ridiculous, esp if you're in bed and fancy a coffee eg first thing in the morning or after going to bed. Also breakfast is £12.50 each if not included in your booking. We didn't bother as we thought that was far too expensive. There was no obvious reception area.

Character and decor, great bathroom and a brilliant shower, very comfy bed, good location, huge car park and some staff were friendly and helpful.

Expensive for what it is. Note that the fee does not include breakfast and a mediocre breakfast for two was charged at an additional £25. The staff blamed this on booking with 'Booking.com'!

We stayed 3 nights. We were the only guests on the first night and sat in the restaurant overlooking the mill pond, however for the 2nd and 3rd nights they had a party and a wedding reception so we were relegated to a back room for our meal, which was a bit disappointing. No kettle in the room although they would make you tea whenever you wanted.

The location was lovely, very peaceful to come back to after a day out and sit in the grounds with a drink. The food was also very good with a limited menu of fresh cooked food. The staff were very pleasant and helpful

Paying extra for breakfast on top of £120. For double room + drink prices were a little on the high side.

Everything good but watch out if you book through booking.com you have to pay £12.50 each for a breakfast. So it made it quite expensive. However no other complaints

At 7pm before out to meet friends for dinner politely requested non feather pillows and more of them.On returning at 11.15 pillow request had been ignored further request made successfully but wen it was pointed out that the lack of lights or obvious switches in public toilets was dangerous the owner insisted that we leave the hotel at about midnight with nowhere to go emphasising his views by shouting and hammering on bedroom door.We have known this establishment for over 35 years-never again.
