Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. I had an expectation that the room had an ensuite, however, the "private" bathroom was a stroll down the hall. The automatic lights turned off too quickly which made trying to open the "private" bathroom with a key in the middle of the night difficult.
The parking is easy if you're on a road trip, and it is close to the Dalwhinnie Distillery, which is a fabulous spot to visit. Even though we arrived late we still managed to get an excellent Indian meal at a restaurant just a short stroll into the town.

Would prefer en-suite, but that was my misunderstanding, it was advertised as being with ‘ a private bathroom’
Helpful and friendly welcome by the owners. Clean, comfortable room with all we needed. Lovely breakfast which we both enjoyed.

The room got a bit stuffy in the evening.
The rooms were a good nice size and had good facilities. Parking was helpful and the location was good. The bed was very comfy.

We spent very little time in the house but there didn’t appear to be anywhere to sit/read other than one desk/dining chair in the bedroom.
Sue was welcoming & friendly. Very comfortable bed in a quiet, good value B&B. Breakfast was very good. Avondale House is a great base for exploring the area. There was lots of tourist information/leaflets available in the hall.

Last check in is 9pm which seems a little early when travelling after work from Edinburgh. Phoned host and she agreed to let us arrive up to 9:30 after which the doors would be locked and we would have to find somewhere else. But it all worked out fine and we were able to get a pizza in the local pub rather than a chippy in Aviemore as we had planned.
Very comfortable room with a huge bed and adequate shower room. Host was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was £10 for a full Scottish with cereal and lovely fresh fruit. Good value and very tasty. Nice sized telly (not that we watched it), bigger than in some similar places.

We didn't like the breakfast coffee - hard to know why, as it was filter coffee in a cafetiere which we plunged after a good wait as usual - possibly boiling water poured on to scald it rather than recently boiled? Or maybe just the water locally wasn't to our taste for coffee!
Owners friendly and helpful. Good communication. Location excellent. Room comfortable and this time we made sure to book a room with an ensuite shower (we didn't like having just a freestanding bath in the bedroom last year - too difficult to use shower attachment without spraying everywhere!) which was good. The drinks in the room were good and the large TV excellent. The breakfast (pay extra) was good - especially appreciate the fresh fruit, and my husband loved his cooked breakfast.

Ensuite bathroom had a bath ( bonus but didn't use) was a little tired and could do with a spruce up.
Location was good for us. Breakfast (£10 extra was fantastic-lovely haggis) Hosts both lovely genuine people and interesting. Bed comfy. Bedroom was comfortable and clean.

This is a traditional guest house. Very welcoming and homely. We loved the bath in the bedroom - so luxurious! The owners were lovely and so helpful. Breakfast was tasty. Very good value for money.
