Friendly and comfortable hotel. Rooms large and warm. Largely unmodernized - but that is part of the charm. Bar is lively and friendly and the food was unexpectedly very good. We thoroughly recommend the pork belly it is apparently one of the specialties. Location was ideal for us - it is very close to Hay on Wye and in some stunning countryside. We will be back for sure. Great venue for groups on activities.

Rooms and facilities are very dated. It was very cold amd humid in the room, specially during the night. Food selection in the restaurant is pretty poor (unless younare big fan of typical cheap British, frozen, food).

Breakfast was good as well as character of the bar.

Car park was a bit tight when busy but there is plenty of room to park on the quiet road outside.

We only stayed overnight some reviews had not been kind but we found this place great. Just off a main road so quite at night. Yes it is a little dated and could benefit from some TLC but the staff were great, food amazing nigh on al a carte but good prices. A quiz was on in the bar and we were invited to join in with all the locals a good laugh. We had two dogs with us and they were welcome to stay no problems at all. Room was clean on-suite and had all the usual tea and coffee making, towels, handwash, bodywash etc.. Would definitely stay again.

Staff upon check in not very pleasant, also was the same person in the evening, room was very dated and not a true representation of the pictures, bath panels held together with tape and you definitely wouldn’t want to bathe in it! overpriced drinks more expensive than a city centre served in dirty glasses, no atmosphere, staff more interested in the locals, wouldn’t stay here ever again.

There was dirty cups in the sink in the room. The bed was atrocious. The food was barely edible and they weren't busy but it still took two hours from ordering to getting the main meal. The toilets in the pub absolutely stunk. Dirty plates were left on the tables the whole time we were sat there waiting. Please bare in mind I live on a farm so I'm not picky by any means but that place was horrendous

Lovely old traditional hotel with moderate-sized 20th-century extension in beautiful village near to where we wanted to go. Bright twin room with excellent roomy en suite (tiny constructive crit - needs a lick of paint where new mirror is a different shape!). Lovely food and friendly staff. Great atmosphere, nice communal sofas in big old upstairs landing. I enjoyed walking around the village & nearby country walks. I would love to spend a week there instead of our stay of 2 nights.

It doesn't feel like it's had any investment into it since the 1980s so everything's a bit faded and drab, and even though it's one of the cheaper places in the area it doesn't quite feel like you're getting value for money.

The Baskerville is in a good location, just outside of Hay-on-Wye. I would say its perfect if you're looking to visit the area and just need somewhere to stay for the night for a reasonable price.

The room was barely large enough for the single metal bed. The other furniture was a miniscule dressing table and a metal frame with some hangers and a tv the size of a tablet. The decoration was awful. There was black mould round the window and some one had splashed on some violet emulsion without bothering to remove the window blind as was evident by the marks. It took about 15 minutes to rouse any one to book in at 4.50. I was presented with a load of terms and conditions to sign where I learnt for the first time that the breakfast was continental unless you paid more. I was not given a copy of these terms and conditions. The public areas were very shabby.

Charming lady serving breakfast. Well kept real ale.
