It’s a pity the spa has not been rebuilt following the fire a few years ago, I think it was an added attraction to the hotel.

The food and service were very good and the staff were helpful and accommodating. We have stayed there several times before and have always enjoyed our visits. We once brought our daughter and granddaughter and they enjoyed it too.

The exterior of the hotel and car park could do with a spruce-up. It was a pleasant surprise to step into reception and find the outside of the hotel did not reflect the inside.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast and dinner were great and served by friendly staff.

We had no hot water at all during our stay. The restaurant was closed the day we were there but not stated on the website that it closed Mondays and Tuesdays. We found the breakfast to be expensive for what we had.

Toilet layout - bowl too close to bath and unsteady. No hot water coming through in sink, and several minute wait for hot bath water. No dinner service on Tuesday. Bed base needs replacing.

Comfortable bed mattress and coffee /tea making facilities. Clean room service. Good bar service and friendly staff on reception and in restaurant. Food very good.

I had 3 rooms booked room 12 twin, room 9 double and room 15 twin. Room 15 was new could smell paint and new carpet, room 9 was double it was tiny and wasn't to clean didn't look as if carpet had been hoovered and room 12 was nice still had to be decorated eg new carpet but was nice

Our room was very cold and very noisy by the main road. The bed was uncomfortable for us as it was soft and lumpy. We didn't get much sleep.

The heating wasn’t working which wasn’t ideal however the staff were lovely and kindly brought us up a heater for the room.

Clearly The Popinjay is in need of substantial investment. The rooms are old and tired, there was a very peculiar smell in the corridor where our room was and the bathroom was in really poor condition. The heating was also set VERY low

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was a bit small, but well cooked and tasty.

The bathroom was a disability purpose wet room which I didn't expect or like. High toilet with no seat and a very low sink which I presume was for a wheelchair. As I was only staying for 1 night I did not find the need to complain.

The room was spacious with comfortable beds. Nicely decorated had all we needed for a 1 night stay over. We all had a meal late afternoon. The food was exceptional. We had a 2 course the starters were haggis the mains were Chicken stuffed with black pudding then wrapped in bacon. We sent our compliments to the chef as I have never tasted a meal so good. Menu prices were very good for the standard of the food I would have expected to pay much more.

We had a double room, for 2 people - there was a tiny pot of bodywash & shampoo, which barely stretched to 1 shower. Shower was ok , not stunning. Unfortunately there was a stag party who were noisy in the early hours, whilst going to bed - not the staff's fault.

The beds didn't have fitted bottom sheets so the sheet kept moving and each of the 2 beds were made in a different way. We had to ask for milk the first 2 mornings, then sachets were provided.

The staff were very friendly. They all seemed to enjoy working there. The food was good. The staff made a fuss of my dog! Nothing was too much trouble.
