Most if the staff are friendly and helpful, but don't leave anything in your room you don't want to be moved around and touched be the staff. I left a wedding shawl drying on blocking mats and came back to my room to find it had been moved against a radiator that had been turned up high, luckily I came back to bring my daughters wedding dress to my room so managed to save it from being scorched and ruined. That could have spoiled my daughters wedding that was happening at the hotel. I kept all staff out of my room for the next 2 days as I was worried about the wedding dress too.

The hotel is an architectural masterpiece in beautiful grounds.

A few things were a little tired, but they didn't detract from our stay.

Fantastic big room with views over the garden. Nice calm decor and everything you need for a short stay away from home. Was clean and comfortable, with a big bathroom. There were extra pillows and the room temp was perfect. We loved the vibe of the place, particularly the entrance hall and staircase.

Cleanliness wasn't brilliant. Dining tables were 'sticky'. Bath had been damaged, as had the wash hand basin. The bathroom lights did not work properly, which could/should have been noticed by housekeeping unless they relied on daylight from the windows. One window had been damaged, clearly a significant time ago, and boarded up instead of being repaired.

Hotel was conveniently situated and generally quiet. Food in the restaurant was OK but not exciting. Menu was quite limited.

Deep Potholes in the driveway as you enter from the road and also in the entrance to the carpark. We booked a twin room, were given a double and had to be moved so one of us had a sofa bed. Asked for a discount but never received it. Got asked over dinner "how is your food" at least 5 times during our meal so didn't eat in the restaurant again in the evening.

The house, rooms and gardens are beautiful. Pleasant staff.

Lovely venue, fantastic room but terrible bed = bad night sleep

The only thing is the bed, it is so uncomfortable, we both woke up with sore backs, and felt like we had very little sleep.

The location and presentation is very good, the room is very pleasant and looks really nice but the bed as to be the most uncomfortable I have slept in in my 62 years. I was talking to my wife about how uncomfortable the bed is and a Irish chap that was leaving at the same time made the same comment, lovely place terrible bed. My wife and I had a terrible night's sleep. My wife and I travel a lot around the UK, weekend stays at least twice a month every month and have for years and that bed is the worse ever. It would stand you well for one of your staff to spend the night to experience it, then you will understand my review.

It needs tlc which is a shame.

At £55 a night I didn’t expect much but the hotel doesn’t reflect the photos. The room was warm clean and comfortable but in need of some tlc. The hotel has been on generator for at least 3 months but the noise didn’t bother us. We were not asked if we wanted to book breakfast or dinner but used the bar which is expensive. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from an Harvester. If I’d paid more I would be upset but all in all it is value and once would have been amazing. We stayed in the Stable block.

Needs some TLC. Water damage in most ceilings, frayed curtains, just generally looking tired and in need of an upgrade. The bathroom was very basic and the large space could be better utilised. The hotel felt quite empty. They could offer so much more, like incorporate activities in the grounds for guests to engage in, maybe archery and other sports, a gym etc.

Beautiful building and grounds, spacious room

The hotel is a beautiful old building that needs a bit of maintenance and some TLC internally, for example:- In our room number 15 one of the window panes in the bedroom was broken and had a badly fitted piece of wood that did not cover the whole of the window therefore there is a permanent draft through the gap. The door to one of the cubicles in the male toilet next to the bar has a defective handle with screws sticking out that I caught my hand on. The dining room was very cold when we had our evening meals. Having mentioned these issues we would still use the hotel again.

All the Staff were very pleasant and helpful, The Bedroom Room and bathroom were both clean and the bed was comfortable.

The windows did not open and the extractor fan in the bathroom was not automatic and only available by standing on a chair to operate a switch close to the ceiling. Some of the fixture and fittings were loose and the furniture was tired and scratched. All acceptable given the overall very low cost.

The room was comfortable and spacious. It had easy access to the car park and as we stayed in the Stables it was quiet. The dining area was a short walk but the grounds were attractive.

    Great Rooms and Great showers.
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple

    • Stayed 2 nights

The heating in our room (48) wasn't working and clicking all night, so it was cold and we couldn't dwell in the room comfortably for long unless under the bed covers. The selection of the dinner menu was meager and when our meals arrived we were severely underwhelmed by the quality of the food considering the price. My wife asked whether she could substitute the tomatoes on the salmon dish with another vegetable (a Fillet of salmon with roasted new potatoes, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, butter, and caper sauce). However, when the meal arrived there were no carrots but twice as many capers on her plate than there was on mine and one extra stick of asparagus drowned in butter. We chose not to dine with the following evening but visited "The Tuning Fork" where we had a far better and more substantial 3-course meal and a couple of drinks each for LESS then we paid for 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert and 2 drinks at the Brownsover hall.

The room was bigger than expected, and the bathroom and water pressure from the shower were great. Breakfast was good, the bar was handy, but, the drinks were overpriced.
