We didn't like the long time it took for hot water to come through to our room however we worked round this once we got used to it. Lack of a lift not a problem for us but could be a problem for others.

We enjoyed the large room we were assigned particularly as the weather was changeable and we were able to use our room to relax in - bedroom section was apart from the living area. Steam room, sauna and pool were very pleasant - clean and quiet when we visited them. We dined out on most evenings as menu on offer was limited however breakfasts were well prepared and freshly presented.

Old fashioned rooms. Had to make our own bed up as the sheets had just been laid. Tv didn’t work. Took three retuning and an aerial move for it to work. Holes in the wall and decor not treated to for a while. Bath/Shower is one slip away from seriously injuring someone.

The castle feel and the spa facilities.

Only down side was the shower in the room didn’t drain and it would overflow so you’d have to wait to get back in before accidentally flooding the bathroom/downstairs.

Fantastic hotel to get away and just relax at. Used the spa facilities as well to really unwind. Staff were very helpful and it was nice being in the middle of nowhere (although not far from Chester but there’s no hustle and bustle so you’re far enough my away but not too far). Just what the doctor ordered

Breakfast could be improved by offering more choice and eggs cooked to order as they unfortunately were all overdone, but we could have just been unlucky!

Lovely size family room, really comfortable beds. Pool was great and all staff were helpful and friendly.

1.meal I had in the restaurant wasn't that good (the lamb was very chewy ) 2. having to pay £100 deposit to book a table (never come across this before and we just come from a hotel in Manchester that didn't require it)) 3. Went to use room service but no phone in the room - reported it but still had to go to reception to place my order sort of defeats the object some what. 4.when checking in and out it took a very long time due to the card machine not connecting.

The room was clean and very nice plus there was on site parking

Hotel needs updating as decor is tired and some fixtures and fittings hanging off (toilet roll holder) Room was so hot we had to figure out how to turn all the radiators off and slept with window open. Furniture is old and marked. Bar area was awful and uninspiring, the bar man was interrupted twice by staff as I was trying to put and order in. The bar menu is limited and the online menu is inaccurate as prices are more expensive, pizza is £18 not £14...which is a big price jump. We ate in room and when it came was 'soggy' as my son called it. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to our last minute getaway.

    Proximity to local attractions.

Breakfast wasn’t the best - we paid separately to room cost and booked in for 9.15 (it’s open until 10) and there was very little left. But apart from that it was a great value for money stay.

Lovely hotel and great location close to city centre and Chester zoo. Great spa facility and spacious bedroom. Very friendly staff.

Had booked a twin room which hadn't been passed on to the hotel. They made up a sofa bed for my son but the mattress was very thin and uncomfortable (even for a pre-teen). The room was directly above reception and noisy with the sound of external doors closing frequently both late into the evening and early in the morning. The showerhead was large but water pressure was pretty low so not a strong flow (more rain drops than power shower!). Check out was very slow due to slow connection on payment machine which resulted in a queue of guests waiting to settle their bills. Food in the restaurant for dinner was ok but not any better than ok (reasonable menu choice but not especially well cooked or seasoned) given the prices.

Staff very friendly and pleasant; room very clean and well presented

Lighting in the room was dreadful, hardly any of the lightbulbs worked, water didn’t seem to get hot or cold so struggled for a warm bath and when running the tap for a drink of water
