Our first nights stay in the lodge was not so good. It felt like you weren't part of the castle experience. No room service and no phone to communicate with the castle itself. I'm glad i upgraded to the castle accommodation for the remaiming 3 nights of our stay. Both of the steam rooms weren't working for our entire 4 night stay, which was very disappointing. We struggled with booking meal times as well. We weren't told about doing this beforehand on the website at all. The website needs to state that if you're staying in the lodges that your facilities are limited. Apart from these issues the stay was very good and I would thoroughly recommend staying there

The stay in the actual castle was amazing. The breakfast was top notch and the food overall was of high quality and decent portion sizes. The spa facilities were ok and the stone massage was so relaxing. The fact that you could use the spa facilities everyday of your stay for 90 minutes was a great idea. The grounds the castle is situated in are spectacular, secluded and quiet. Even though the nearest villages are only a mile away it definitely felt like you were getting away from it all

It's a very old building with lots of narrow corridors. Directional signage could be improved.

The room was slightly to dark we stayed in the comwell suite even with the lights on it was hard to see

We liked it so much because obviously it was a very old castle and it was so Grande and mystique, and has so much history dating back 800 years , it was finished to the highest standards also , plus it was so quiet which was great also .

Spa area was disappointing with both steam rooms closed due to maintenance issues. No hot water for shower in room - lucky we used spa showers both days

The history and character of the hotel. We stayed in Robert the Bruce (no. 17) and loved it - four poster bed and views were lovely

I was a little weary of the staircase. I think it might need some fixing.

The location is fantastic, even in winter the views were stunning. The atmosphere is just great! My absolute favorite was the library - so many gems there!

Some of the staff need a little bit more training to answer questions and to be more service-oriented

A spacious room with a wonderful view. No amenities were missing. The breakfast was great, and especially the breakfast staff was very friendly. The castle itself makes you feel like you stepped into a different time, with a wonderful library and comfortable publick rooms. It is a splendid choice for someone who wants to rewind and relax in a very special surrounding.

They don’t do room service to the lodge because of health and safety. Understandable but still disappointing!

We stayed in the lodge. It’s more secluded than the castle and we were on our own which was a bonus.

We ate in the orangery which had quite a limited menu - only 4 mains. The fish and chips was lovely but the chicken pie and mash was disappointing. We did mention at check out and they refunded the food charges in full which I wasn't expecting but was a pleasant surprise.

Beautiful surroundings. Room was a standard castle room which was of a good standard. Could do with a little TLC but maintaining a castle is costly so not as easy as in some larger chains. The castle library, drawing room and other areas were amazing and the spa was good too, although the sauna wasn't working. Starter of Haggis Neeps and Tatties in the Orangery was wonderful!

Loved the fact that is a castle and it is a proper castle with proper stairs. The History is interesting and it was a privilege to have the experience. The falconry experience is top notch. Both restaurants are beautiful and efficient even though food options was challenging for a picky eater like myself.

Difficult access to SPA and restrictive time. Some of the staff were great others not so great. In the four places we stated over two weeks this would have the lowest rating for friendliness. Special positive mention, for Amy, Jon, Melanie

Bathroom was tired and repairs needed, food in main restaurant was awful and extremely slow service which was similar to breakfast, very chaotic. Room 11 had a gap under the main door so light spilt in from the hallway so had to put pillow over it.

The castle it self and the spa was nice, breakfast was lovely.

The staff were not particularly welcoming, especially on arrival. They didn't greet us immediately and made us wait without acknowledgement. I would expect a hotel of that calibre to be more accommodating and friendly. However, the night porter was nice, and the manager who checked us out was professional. The food is overpriced for what it is.

Loved the views, scenery and our room was beautiful. We stayed in the red 4 poster bedroom located in the turrets. It was clean and comfortable.

There were 66 steps we had to climb to get to our room, so be prepared for that. No lift. The castle was like a maze and easy to get confused in where you were going. The food in the Orangery (one their two places to eat) was very good, and had abundant light due to full glass windows. The other eatery was The Dungeon. The staff was excellent, but really wasn't impressed with the food selection and quality. It was ok, but expected more than that, especially considering the cost of the meal. Expensive. The restaurant had a nice ambience and was very clean

The castle was elegant and well maintained. The staff was professional and very helpful. Ample parking on sight. The grounds were beautiful and very peaceful. Big, comfortable beds. Good sized room.

Lodge room needs some attention - loose bathroom fittings, patio door handle broken so 2 cheap bolts fitted. Blind broken so fabric just draped over roller. Shower selector switch on bath mixer tap broken/ missing so only a screw in its place. Service in restaurant in the evening slow- only one lady running the whole thing. Drinks- cider, bottle of water - not cold/chilled.

    Beautiful setting

We had room #12 and it had absolutely no wifi connection. To get any wifi access, we had to step out of our room and go down the few steps to the main hallway. This meant we could not access any internet service, texts, etc while in our room. In today's age, not having wifi access in the room is unacceptable. There were two restaurants in the castle, one more casual and one for finer dining. The casual restaurant had one price $30 for a two course meal or $35 for a 3 course meal. We had the fish and chips and then a dessert/cheese plate. $30 for fish and chips is pricey. We also planned on checking out at 8:00am. Most places we've stayed start breakfast service at 7-7:30am. However, this breakfast service started at 8:00am which means we were unable to use the service. While we did get a bagged breakfast to go, it was an egg salad sandwich with the smallest amount of egg salad spread across white bread, a pastry, plum and cereal bar with a cup of coffee and juice. We paid well over $300/night and just did not feel we got our money's worth.

We arrived and our rooms were ready. We were traveling as two couples and our rooms were on different floors. The rooms were very nice and the bed was comfortable. Nice bathroom and towels.
