First room was tiny, we paid to be upgraded to bigger room.

The location and tranquility. But our room was not cleaned on the third night.

The breakfast curfew is quite ridiculous. We like to enjoy a run and swim in the river before breaky but felt we couldn’t enjoy the morning because the cut off was 930am. Spoke to catering staff whether or not we could arrive at 9.30am they responded “you could but they’d be no food left”. I think those who work in hospitality sometimes forget we are actually paying customers on holiday which is worth remembering hence why many folk are opting for ABNB where one has more freedom.

The breakfast. It was precooked and kept warm. But it didn’t taste nice at all. Rubbery tasteless eggs in particular.

The message about plumbing being old and guests asked to pay if they block it...this plumbing is old and needs sorting out I guess.

Beautiful spring Gardens and convenience of pub and cinema on site.

One room too hot and unable to turn down heating, but moved next day. Rooms need a spring clean, but bedding and shower room clean.

In a great historic setting amidst an old estate. Good, plentiful breakfast included in pub within square. On site, volunteer run cinema (best to pre-book if busy time). Good price for single ensuite room. Lovely historic gardens on site, and walks when weather better. Free parking for those staying.

The Trust is going through a period of transition and is focused on how it will survive financially, and I felt the impact as a visitor. I did not like the Alice in Wonderland light show which was installed for a long duration and which I thought detracted from the experience of the exquisite gardens during the day, with strings of colored lights, barricades and plastic sculptures throughout the garden landscape. The project took access away from visitors after 3pm on days when the show was live. I felt the project of Dartington's future might benefit from input from those who appreciate the mission of the Trust and the potential for this institution to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future. I would have welcomed a way to converse on that and contribute. Also, more information about the logistics of staying and enjoying the estate would have been helpful. There is potential here for so much more, but I had a good visit.

My room was modest and efficient and looked out onto a courtyard setting recalling the original construction during medieval times. It was easily accessible, and after a functional problem with the bathroom assigned to my first room, I was offered a different room where I paid an additional amount to solve the problem. I booked for an extended stay, so had time to explore this fascinating estate. It's history and mission was an important feature for me, along with the amazing gardens, and a pub and two cafes on site. Devon countryside is beautiful and it was great to take walks along the River Dart and to surrounding towns like Totnes, even in spite of the frequent rainy weather. To truly take in all Dartington has to offer, including lectures, workshops and the Barn Cinema, an extended stay is worth considering.

Could have had more variety of food at breakfast - there was no fresh fruit, just a bowl of chopped (and sometimes rotten) pieces. They ran out of specialty order foods quickly and there was only filter coffee. Should have been able to order a latte or cappuccino from their machine. The room towel heater was broken, the tv was the size of a postage stamp and the windows were warped and broken.

Breakfast was big - it’s a full full English and the mushrooms were AMAZING! As was the bread and variety of jams. The rooms were nice and warm and clean enough. I appreciated that they were cleaned daily as they are small they need a freshening. The views from the room were amazing!

Would have liked to have been able to stay longer so we could explore the gardens and local walks. Gardens were closed during our stay due to the Wonderland Glow event.

Beautiful and quiet location. Room decor was smart and clean with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was plentiful and served in the historic White Hart/Hall.

The breakfast and the method of self service delivery- led to chaotic scenes and waiting around one morning- same breakfast every morning: scrambled eggs, toms, mushrooms and choice of bacon and or sausage. I had asked for veggie breakfast beforehand but there were no veggie sausages on any of the three mornings we stayed. I could see nothing given over to vegan's also and this surprised me.

The location and the grounds were outstanding with the cinema and the gardens etc.., the staff were wonderful , the room was good also and the décor in keeping with the building and it was very quiet at night.

Whilst I absolutely understand why, (delicate plumbing, listed building etc) the emphasis on using the toilet or charges for repairs etc made me nervous about using the bathroom

It was disappointing not to be able to have dinner at the White Hart due to shortage of staff. Notice in advance on the website would have been helpful.

Dartington is a beautiful estate and fortunately the gales had subsided by the morning so it was possible to walk round the grounds. I was looking forward to visiting again having previously attended the summer school of music but the estate seems to have lost some of its captivating atmosphere.
