The floors constantly creaked, walls very thin, you could hear the conversation in the room next door. No drinking glasses provided in the room. The bathroom was extremely small.

    Mixed Feelings About Our Stay

We knew our room would be in the Mews building but it was still a little disappointing and very small. The Mews feels very much like a corporate training venue and essentially that's what it is. The TV remote was missing from our room. The hospitality tray was poor for a De Vere. The changing rooms for the swimming pool are tiny. And, despite asking for a locker key (as instructed), the small number of lockers were full of people's belongings and left unlocked. The hotel was very busy, and the staff didn't seem to have time for anyone. As mentioned, the cooked breakfast was excellent, but other items ran out quickly and the quality wasn't as expected.

The original building is beautiful, as is the landscape around the hotel. And, inside, the bar, lounge area and restaurant are lovely. The cooked beakfast was very good and the fresh juices very nice. Bed was comfortable. Swimming pool is clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking.

Good beer selection on draft, although the weekend we were there only one of the beers were available on tap, which wasn’t ideal.

We booked an evening meal, the risotto was not as described, it was just prawns and not the seafood it promised, the smoked haddock was missing the peas and the squeak from the bubble and squeak; perhaps, we should have said something at the time but after a 5 hour journey, which should have taken 3 hours, we just wanted to have a meal and go to bed.

The reception staff were excellent, our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good.

Room was nice but no real temperature control so very hot until early morning. Bed was not the best as mattress was very old with several broken springs. Sat on side of bed and the end of one spring scratched the back of my leg. Made reception aware when leaving so hopefully this will just require a new mattress.

Décor was really nice as was the location. Excellent walking location to visit surrounding area and trails clearly marked. Food was very good quality and quantity with good friendly service. Did not have time to use pool or gym.

The room we stayed in was very small. Possibly the smallest room we've stayed in an hotel. The breakfast was tasty but we felt the choices were limited. My husband is vegetarian and there were no vegan sausages both mornings we had breakfast at the hotel

We were impressed with the beauty of De Vere Latimer. The spralling valleys; the streams that ran through them, absolutely spectacular views. The quaint country hotel is gorgeous in it's own right.

Thr main hotel is old but there are separate buildings some of which are business suites with rooms in and this was where my room was- the vast majority of people were there as part of corporate groups. This is a business hotel, it may be a different vibe at the weekend but wouldn’t be one I’d select if going away with my partner. Gym is small, steam room was working but sauna not, changing rooms are tiny.

I needed one night in this location and the hotel was well managed. The room was clean and modern. The bar, lounge and restaurant good features and the food was good.

The evening service at the bar was a bit chaotic as there wasn’t enough staff. Breakfast was worse. We had to queue for 5 minutes for a coffee. No clean tables available for 10 minutes. Hardly any staff trying to feed over 100 guests. Understandably the staff seemed quite low on morale and overwhelmed. Also the sauna room and jacuzzi were out of action all weekend and the women’s changing room was filthy.

    Beautiful place and location
