Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGiven we were set in the highlands, it lacked a distinct Scottish hotel feeling. Staff were very kind but the whole experience lacked a truly 5*, out of their way to make it special service. Not to say it was bad, just not incredible.
Was very clean and welcoming when we arrived. Staff were courteous. Had a modern city hotel feeling. Lovely views and location. Great parking.

United KingdomCould do with more snacks in the rooms as there’s not local shops near that are open at night / or later room service the staff were a wee bit difficult to communicate with and on arrival was told you had to put £100 behind the bar which wasn’t a problem but wasn’t stated when booking the hotel and only got informed when we arrived we never used the bar so got £100 back but for other people/young couples that may not have £100 sitting there to just put away it would be great if was stated when booking
Beds were comfortable , loved how clean and peaceful the whole hotel was also loved that the tv in the room was adjustable so you can move it to a position to make your view of it better

United KingdomHad trouble getting in to my room on arrival, the card for the door appeared to be faulty. This was promptly attended to by a supervisor who was called. On my return to the Hotel in the early hours, I thought there would be a member of staff at the desk to let me in, I rang the bell several times, no reply . I think it should be pointed out to guests that the room card also does the outside door.
Just stayed for breakfast, continental, but full English was offered. Staff very attentive. Full pot of proper coffee.

United KingdomThe hotel does lack a cosy bar for when the weather is bad. Unfortunately the staff were poorly prepared to cater for guests and the service was far from 5 star at times. TVs in rooms bizarrely had hardly any channels.
The hotel appears recently refurbished and is beautiful inside. The food was all fantastic and the staff were keen to help.

United KingdomThe room has a broken window when we checked in, maintenance had to come and repair it or we would have had a draft all night. This should have been checked prior to our check in. We also noticed a few hairs in the bathroom and the cups in the room were all dirty apart from the champagne flutes and water glasses.
We liked that it was remote, it was an escape from the city. The food was also great at the restaurant. The staff, especially the woman who checked us in was really great, made us smile and laugh and the hotel is lucky to have her.

United KingdomWe paid extra £9.75 per person per day when booking to include breakfast, described at the time of booking as a good breakfast, but when we arrived we were told that this was only for the limited selection of buffet items. I full cooked breakfast was £19 per person, This would have been the same price if we had not already paid for breakfast. They also wanted £40 per night to use the EV charge point, we decided to use the public charge point in the main square instead which cost less than £20 to fully charge our car twice during our stay.
the bed was comfortable, pillow lovely. The room was a good size (we had a suite), the temperature of the room was plesent and easy to adjust. The staff in the bar and resturant were all frendly and nice. The room and hotel in general was clean.

United KingdomThe drinks were seriously overpriced. The quality of food did not match the price at all, I'd expect all the items to be made fresh, not bought in. The continental breakfast was basic, and I was not paying £19.95 a head extra for a cooked one.
Reception staff extremely friendly and the room was lovely.

MalaysiaIt’s been over modernised. It’s a Scottish hotel in a lovely location but presents itself as a big city boutique hotel. Totally lacking in warmth and no trace of heritage. On our 2nd morning, we found the waiter on duty was quite rude. He was the only person there and there was only one other guest.
Clean and well presented in a nice location

United KingdomIt would have been lovely to be able to have a relaxed bite to eat at the hotel (ie soup/bar food) in the evening rather that a more serious meal that was available in the restaurant. Breakfast although very tasty was a little pricey.
The hotel is in a gorgeous location. The rooms were very spacious and beds very comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. A calm, cosy hotel to relax in - would definitely recommend.

United KingdomReally nothing to dislike although the food was so good I would have loved to have tried their 7 course tasting menu which was not available during our stay. A nice cask Scottish ale in the bar would have been nice.
A very relaxing atmosphere with very friendly and attentive staff. Both our room and public areas were very clean and tastefully decorated. The restaurant served fabulous food and the location was ideal for our mini break. Would definitely recommend.

United KingdomThe communal areas and the restaurant were a bit chilly on the evening we arrived, although the room itself was warm and the restaurant was warmer at breakfast time. The design of the hotel inside is very modern and a bit soulless, which is at odds with the historical building and its Scottish location. A bit of a cold, sad atmosphere. The area is quite remote, and the hotel does not offer much in terms of activities. It would make sense for such a large hotel to offer a quieter residents lounge with a real fire, some books and games, maybe a pool and spa. Not sure what the target audience is but I would not want to spend more than a night there. Also at odds with normal Scottish hospitality is the breakfast only including a continental buffet option, with an additional charge for a cooked breakfast. Overall the hotel does not quite get the tone right.
The room was very nice, very clean, very well-appointed, and we really liked the kitchenette area. The food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and responsive.

United KingdomThe only negative point which in hindsight I should have brought up at the time of check out, was house keeping trying to get in the room prior to our departure time and reminding me I had only '1 hour" before the 10am deadline.
On arrival the staff were welcoming and informative. First impressions were good. The check in area was great with the very impressive stairs leading to the suits. Service in the restaurant was attentive and excellent which added to the dinning experience.

United KingdomThe bar prices were expensive The breakfast was really disappointing- we opted to pay for a cooked option(worked out at an extra £30). The poached eggs were underdone and the full Scottish breakfast, lacked decent butcher meat. Very poor quality for the price
