How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Loved everything
Family run hotel and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Very reasonably priced. We had a good evening meal and large breakfast. Good parking and nice outdoor area for having drinks.

We liked being in a family-run hotel, and everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were a highlight! Home-cooked evening meals were also great. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a good shower. The hotel is conveniently close to the A74M, but there was no problem with traffic noise.

There was some road noise from A1m but it was warm and we had windows open.
A great one night stay in this small village. Room was newly decorated, smart and comfortable. Loads of hot water and good shower pressure. Bed soft but comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was exceptionally tasty and brilliant value for money. The hotel is going through a refurbishment so not everything was immaculate but the warm welcome, comfortable room, and amazing breakfast more than compensated. Great value too.

noise in our room was unpleasant, but we were informed before and it did stop when it was supposed to

Nothing, all good 👍
Please don’t let the outside appearance put you off staying in this hotel. The owners were incredibly warm and welcoming during our short stay and are giving it their all to make it a viable business and a hub for the community which is to be applauded. Room was clean and well equipped. Evening meal was excellent and great value for money. The ‘Full Scottish’ breakfast was superb, easily in my top three of all time!!

Only small single serve wine is available . It was difficult to sleep with the noise from the pub below, and as it was warm, we had to leave the window open.
Lovely staff and friendly locals. Really liked the pool table and games area and also that we could bring our dog with us. The food was good. Lovely location - recommend the forrest walk.

As it was midweek, the menu was limited. We ordered a couple of drinks from the bar. Both ales were off & the young lady poured warm, open, flat lemonade into my shandy. Not good.
Lovely location. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Clean room & facilities. Just off the motorway but really quiet. Nice to be able to walk around this lovely place & learn more about the history of the village.

Great owners. Arrived later than planned. Greeted with a warm welcome. We stayed in a small double, which was beautiful. Breakfast was the best we had in a long time.

In the process of being refurbished but nice to see some enterprise injecting life into a local establishment
Friendly relaxed atmosphere with accommodating staff. Nicely decorated and clean rooms. Dog friendly with a garden and local park to exercise your dog. More local colour and refreshing less corporate

I have stayed here many times in the past and was very disappointed when it closed down. It has now reopened with new owners, and they seem to have breathed new life into the place. Do not let the outside state of the building put you off, the rooms are clean and very comfortable, and the staff are accommodating, friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommend the place if you like small, family run hotels.

The bed seemed to have a slight hump in the middle.
Evening meal and breakfast were excellent and brilliant value for money. Room was comfortable with tea and coffee etc more than adequate. Bottles of water were appreciated as were the complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gels.

It would have been nice to have a fan or some way to cool the room..
Lovely staff, good breakfast. And dinner options. . The family room was spacious, and it was nice having a sofa to sit on. Wifi was good also. Fantastic walking trail nearby.
