Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The bathroom was a little small but we managed pretty well
Very clean and tidy, close to everything shops, other towns and villages, good location, Rob was excellent host, gave us great recommendations for drives and walks around the place.

Number 9 Could quite easily hear next door conversations. Could also hear next doors water tank! Constant flushing all night.

Rob was a very gracious host. Always helpful and there if you need him. Gave great suggestions of what was there around for hiking and to have a pint after. The location is top notch. It could not be closer to the center of town and all the amenities. Parking is included which is a great plus given the first day I didn't know that and spent 40 minutes trying to find a place. Rob had texted me that parking was available with the lodge however I had missed the message.

Great location, free parking in the car park next to the guesthouse. Our room was very clean, comfortable and perfect for a short break away. Rob kindly organised some beers for our room for my partners birthday, he was very friendly and welcoming, we didn’t need to contact him during our stay but nothing would have been too much trouble had we have needed too. No breakfast included but this didn’t bother us as there’s so many places around.

Nothing to dislike,
The room was beautifully furnished, really homely, and the ensuite was lovely. Happy to cosy up in the room after a long walk. The location is perfect, and bus routes are a minute walk away. ( worth the £2 a trip, as parking around Windermere can be a struggle) Lastly Rob ( the host) was lovely and communicated everything we needed to know, aswell was happy to share local knowledge. Nothing whatsoever, it was perfect.
Ferndale Lodge was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The room was nice and peaceful too. Excellent en-suite bathroom with brilliant shower. It seems that Rob, the owner, had thought of everything, from decent sized kettle, mugs, glasses and spoons to tea towel and hairdryer. There was a generous offering of drinks available in the room and Rob showed us where to help ourselves to more if needed. He even offered us plates if we needed them for sandwiches, as it was room only. Rob was so hospitable and friendly and the room was excellent value for money. There was also car parking free of charge to the rear. We would definitely stay at Ferndale Lodge again in the future and we would highly recommend it to anyone.

Welcoming host. Clean comfortable room. Close to village centre for shops, restaurants, transport etc. We knew breakfast was not offered at the property, which suited us, but may not everyone. Bathroom was small, but shower, loo and sink in it. Parking on site, but tight spaces.

Walls weee a bit thin and bathroom a bit small, but I only had a single room so can’t complain as it served my purpose.
The location was great - central to Ambleside. Staff were very helpful, especially with parking and the price for the room was very economical.

Location central and extremely convenient. Lovely view from top floor room. Everything compact and our host very friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable. Our host kindly gave us a parking pass for the car park outside

The tea wasn’t very nice for some reason we couldn’t work out why and the parking was a bit tight
