Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The power-shower was very inconsistent on the second morning - likely down to greater water use elsewhere in the property?
The room was a decent size with all amenities attended and functioning. Bed was comfortable and coffea/tea/milk were replenished.

The property has lovely period features and high ceilings. The rooms are huge! The welcome was exceptionally friendly and Steve, the host, could not do more for us. He even gave my partner a lift to the station when her taxi did not arrive. I thoroughly recommend this place to any and all.

Some traffic noise since we were in the front - unavoidable and not a problem in winter I imagine.
Host was extremely pleasant and accommodating, place was spotlessly clean.

There was nothing not to like.
The accommodation was so close to the city centre and parking available. The host was very accommodating, friendly and helpful. I was able to check-in early and everything you need is provided.

We didn't think is was value for money. the room spelt musty and damp shower just,look warm. We sore a couple of wood lice in,the toilet and shower room it all wants updating and tyding up

Our room was very hot even with the fan going. Could have done with some heavier curtains as the sun streamed in and woke us at 5am. Shame we couldn’t get breakfast.
Good location. Very clean and well looked after. Steve was very welcoming.

This is a very trivial thing, but the decor is very grey. Would have been very fashionable a while ago, but now it's crying out for something colourful in the room.
This is a nice guest house with parking available. The owner is lovely and very helpful. A good choice for a stay in York. No breakfast provided, but there are cafés just up the road. Less than 20 minutes into town. The walk along the river is nicer than along the main road.

Stayed for one night. The owner is very friendly. The room was clean and cozy. The next day I left my things in the apartment because the train was in the afternoon. Thank you for the hospitality❤️

The mattress was soft.
Anybody that I talked there for help or a question was always nice and responsive and helpful. The place was clean and nicer than I first thought.

It was a very large room and very well appointed. Everything was spotless. The tea and coffee was replenished each day. Only a short walk to the centre of York.

Such a fantastic place! The guesthouse was clean, quiet, comfy and had everything you needed. The host was really friendly and helpful. The nearest Indian was very tasty and weatherspoons was really close to walk for breakfast. All of York was close and easy to walk to and we had an amazing 2 days exploring the city and al it's attractions. The York dungeons and Yorvick centre were both excellent as was the Ghost bus and the hop on off bus. Try Panda Mami for a lovely world buffet. This guest has and this city were perfect.

The staff was very welcoming, friendly, amazing. We really enjoyed staying this guest house. It was clean room, comfortable bed, big TV. When we come back to York, we would love to stay again!!!

we were greeted warmly on arrival and the room was lovely with lots of natural sunlight! the room was tidied daily and tea was replaced which was appreciated. was within walking distance of everything we wanted to do and a short bus ride away from the train station. this place had everything we needed and we loved york :)
