Very little to criticise

Great place for a stopover off the A1.A grand old house, lots of space and places to relax. The staff were exceptional, love to see a team happy and working hard to cater for every need. Food was very good. Good value too. All round a very pleasant stay, exceeding expectations

Carpets in rooms could do with updating but overall fab hotel fab staff and fab food.. shame there's no gym or swimming pool

The atmosphere was good - Bar staff very friendly - evening meal was very very good along with the service - room was nice clean and comfortable - reception staff on both check inn and check out were really really good

Lighting in room bad, breakfast took too long and half of it was brought out after we had been down half an hour or more, didn't realise it was dog friendly. Drinks terrible quality.

The bar would have been better for us if there was a nice "Bitter" on tap!

We liked everything about the hotel, choice of breakfast excellent, room was lovely, menu could have included steak. Food on all the menu's was excellent with large portions and superb standard.

Rooms a small but efficiently laid out.

All staff were professional and friendly. The semi-rural location is pleasantly quiet and a short 15 minute drive from Durham centre. The breakfast was excellent and clearly prepared with quality ingredients by someone who took care (I am an enthusiastic and fussy cook, so I appreciated this).

The shower.....if you are over a size XL, it's interesting 😊 Don't drop the soap!

The premises were spectacular, the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Dinner was delicious!

Could hear people taking on the landing and banging doors closed. Could hear alarm clocks going off from other peoples rooms.

Excellent staff. Had a late evening check in due to a work meeting and Margaret on reception arranged for the kitchen to make me some sandwiches for when I arrived as the kitchen would be closed. All the staff I encountered were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble.

Nothing really. The only confusion could come about is that the brown sign directing you to the hotel says Hallgarth Manor Hotel. But it is actually called now The 61.

A converted Manor house located near Durham( Park and ride to the centre is only a 7 min drive away). Good sized bedrooms with comfy beds. Evening meal was superb and the cooked breakfast substantial. Veggie options available. Staff attentive and fun. Great stay.

A better allocated space for the tea tray in the bedroom, it was tucked away in one of the bedside table cubby holes. I had to sit on the floor to make a coffee. The radiator kept bubbling on my second night which did wake me periodically.

The room was tidy and the bed linen was very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was very modern an the shower was clean and had good pressure. The female chef the morning I departed was very accommodating and was happy to take my breakfast request. The porridge was absolutely lovely, it made my morning.

The bar is very comfortable and a great place to sit and chat, we loved the room also. Being in a remote location means it’s very peaceful

Service ! We’ve visited several times to stay over and just for food and the service is consistently slow . Last night we attended a function and the meal took over 2 hrs 30 mins to serve and the bar queue was rediclous. Often there is no staff at the restaurant bar or reception and everything seems to take forever to do . It really lets down what is otherwise a beautiful venue .

a little out of the way but secluded if you want some peace and quiet

lovely breakfast, had dinner in the resturant and thoughly enjoyed the meal and the attentive staff. the overall character and the friendly staff were key to a lovely stay, will definately rebook.
