Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNo significant issues.
The hotel is very good for walkers, tourists and groups. There is plenty of parking, the staff are pleasant. The historic building has been refurbished in recent years and is generally very clean and in good condition, bar the odd minor issue. The continental breakfast is pleasant and sufficient. It is good that a bar and restaurant are available on site, but not too far to the establishments at Matlock Bath and Matlock, where we ate out. It was possible to walk in the countryside from the hotel on both days of the weekend without using the car and we all had a great time, thanks! There are a variety of rooms at fair prices and it was easy for a group of 11 to stay together using their own individual bookings, as not that many places near the Peaks could offer this.

United KingdomThe price of the breakfast is confusing. We got a continental breakfast included in our cost, a cooked breakfast would have been extra, but it now appears that you may have to pay for anything you have. The room was quite hot , we opened the window but the main road is quite noisy and made sleeping difficult. The bed was a bit uncomfortable. I like hard beds but this was very hard. However, having said all these , our overall experience with the hotel was good and we would return there.
Cleanliness of room and facilities provided in it. Good bathroom and relaxing bar area. Location close to Peak District countryside

United KingdomThe pillows suppied were uncomfortable. They were solid, compressed down. I normally take my own pillow because this is a problem with many hotels.
Very nice looking hotel situated across from the river that can be seen from the window.

United KingdomThe heating wasn't working in our room at all so initially when we walked into the room it was a feeling of a very damp/chilly room, as well as when we got up the next morning - quite uncomfortable. However, we didn't make a complaint because there was an electric heater placed in the room already to deal with that I suppose, so we used that and eventually warmed up. Being cold and feeling damp did steel from the whole experience though, not especially because that included a non functioning towel heater so we woke up to wet towels next morning too. Also the bath and sink didn't drain totally the night we were getting ready to go out and the morning we were leaving. Big problem that really. As the shower was over the bath it was really difficult to get ready to go out for the evening as we had to wait for everything to drain and do basics like wash hands brush teeth etc. if the basics - heating and water drainage are sorted out that would be a 5 star stay because everything else was extra special, especially the staff.😊
The hotel was absolutely beautiful and so much staff attention. Th e cleanliness was 5 star.

United KingdomOne thing that was missing was a coat rack or hook in the bedrooms, we were having to lay our coats on the floor. Continental breakfast was very standard (toast, jam and cereal) but good coffee.
Very good stay, room we was given was very nice and spacious and staff was very nice.. The location of the hotel was very good, on a quiet road with 10 min walk to both Matlock and the town centre of Matlock Bath.

United KingdomStains on sofa, weak mains water fed shower, very pricey breakfast.
This hotel is perfectly located for exploring Matlock and the surrounding areas, it was clean and modern looking and recently refurbished. However we did find quiet a few stains on the sofa which was a light grey colour, and these stains really stood out. I didn't want to sit on the sofa due to these. Also our bathroom was very nicely appointed, but the shower ran off the regular mains water supply, and was pretty much a dribble coming out of a very cheap looking shower head. Breakfast was offered as an extra, but at £14:99 each was too pricey, especially given there's many cafes nearby. But overall this was a very pleasant stay, and a few tweaks would make this hotel perfect. I would stay again.

United KingdomThe headroom over the bed wasn't good as the room was half in the roof, with a dormer window. So had to get into bed from the bottom and not the side. The outside front door was not well lit. The door was shut and there were no entrance signs. The steep hill drive and its turning, to the property, was easily missed from the main road. Sign improvement with lights needed.
It was a nice place to stay for a night in Matlock. It has a bar and the buffet breakfast was enough for us too. A short walk to the pubs so quite good.

The property was clean and comfortable with a bath and a powerful shower which was appreciated after a day's hike. The property is conveniently located to walk in either direction to local restaurants

AustraliaI think they need a new cook lots of people left their cooked breakfast hardly touched. Don’t bother with cooked breakfast stick with continental toast cereal yoghurt fruit juice was more than enough. Coffee had burnt taste might need to check setting on machine.
One of the best showers ever combined with excellent bed. A bit of a walk into town but lovely scenery.
