Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nothing to improve on for us.
Breakfast was delicious everything hot and a nice freshly fried egg with the full breakfast. Location very central and a short walk to the main attractions, free Disabled car parking right opposite the hotel

the reason i gave 7 is because i stayed last thursday night n got woken up at 5.30am in the morning by the radiators making a noise, im assuming the heating comes on at that time, so the pipes were really noisey n then i couldnt get back asleep, we stayed in room 352.. so i wasnt impressed waking up at that time.. other than that it was great..
we have stayed in this hotel before and its right were we like it, opposite the castle, main town, close to everything u need. the guy on reception he had an accent n he is a brilliant host, (dont know his name)

Fire Alarm at 1.30am on Saturday night was handled badly by front desk staff. Couldn't reach them by phone as they didn't answer. Didn't know if the alarm was real or a faulty alarm. No info given out to anybody. Some people left the hotel while others stayed inside???? There has to be a better system for getting people out or telling them it is ok to stay!!!!
Bar staff, breakfast staff, check-in staff and cleaning staff were all excellent.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Unfortunately when we arrived we were sent to another hotel as our room had a maintenance issue. This was at 9.45pm. We were given a taxi to the other hotel but the taxi dropped us at the wrong place so we did not get to our destination until 11 pm. The staff at the Hilton were very apologetic and accommodating when we arrived back in the morning, but it spoiled our trip.

The room was cold during the night and no heating on in the bathroom- cold when finished showering
The hill beside the hotel was striking . The service was good - staff all very pleasant.

Very small bathroom to a double room.
Very helpful staff. Great breakfast. Restaurant and bar very nice atmosphere, great choice of food and drinks and very friendly staff. Very peaceful at night. Great location for walking to city centre and some very nice restaurants close by. Had an enjoyable away.

The room was quite warm and didn’t have aircon or fan to cool down. One of the pillows had mud stains on unfortunately so just left it to one side.
It was close to where we wanted to visit and easy to walk into the centre. Parking was great at the hotel, really easy and helpful staff, who parked the car for you.

Suite was located at the far end of a very long corridor. Hotel looked a little dated. We booked for 3 adults yet amenities were only for two ( 2 bathrobes instead of 3, 2 cups, 2 teaspoons …) We also found the view disappointing ( would have though the views from the suite would have been to the castle ( opp to the hotel location) instead of the side street and the rooftops )

Would have preferred walk in shower but only available to accessible room. Not disabled but difficulty with getting in & out of baths. Needed tea tray re stocking, had to ask at reception. On remote, no menu as directed to order room service & telephone not answered
Would have liked twin, upgraded to double & single. Hot water immediate, shower good. Towels white & fluffy. Location perfect, breakfast including vegetarian very good choices.

Wish there was a bit more storage in the room, draws would have been great for non hanging items. We also had noisy people next to us, not the hotels fault at all but the rooms aren’t very sound proof so if you don’t have particular respectful people next door it can be a bit of an issue. But again, we didn’t say anything to the hotel (we didn’t want to pack everything and move when we spent most of the time out anyways) so I’m sure they would have moved us if we requested it as they were helpful the whole time.
Really close to everything in the area, lovely view of Clifford’s tower, the valet parking was excellent, helpful knowing that our car was safe. Staff were friendly, helped with anything we needed, breakfast was great with plenty of options for all. My fussy 10 year old loved the pancake machine and the bagels.

The location is great. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. Especially like to thank the lady making the eggs she was brilliant. I was a single mum with two kids and they couldn’t do enough to help me out.

The room has a lot of furniture in it for its size which can make it difficult to walk around
On our trips to York we aways stay here due to the amazing location. The majority of sights and attractions are all within an easy 15 mins walking distance. The staff at the hotel are always welcoming and professional. The property is very clean.
