    Booking .coms booking inaccurate confirmation

the friendliness of the staff coupled with the overall cleanliness of this hotel , not to mention the excellent breakfasts make Orkney Lodge a definite return to location . however the booking .com confirmation was very inaccurate , stating that linen and towels were at extra charge , and that there were no meal options ! Please can you amend these as all linen and towels are provided as is the wonderful breakfasts .

Hostess needs to be flexible in her approach. Having a list of do's and dont's is very old fashioned & unwelcoming. It's all about hospitality & making people feel welcome. We were a group of 5 but not allowed to sit together at breakfast. It would have been very simple to move tables together. Mechanism for opening front door was not user friendly. Overall the atmosphere felt unnatural & uncomfortable to us. The rooms were very clean & comfortable which we would like to point out.

There is absolutely nothing at Houton and although the Noust Restaurant and bar at Orphir serves decent food in a pleasant ambience it is a long walk (45 min) from the lodge.

Contrary to the impression from the booking information, a good breakfast was included in the price of the room and there was easy parking right at the lodge. Convenient for the ferry to Hoy and good views over Scapa Flow.

    Can't think of anything.

Nice location between Kirkwall & Stromness and quite close to the Neolithic sites around Stenness and Brodgar. Friendly staff, and very comfortable bed. Great continental-style breakfast, and complimentary drinks in our room on a couple of evenings.

The shower stall drain was clogged, the bedroom was miniscule. I thought there would be a microwave and/or mini fridge but only had tea pot. The manager was thorough in directing us in case of a fire, which is nice since the fire alarm went off twice during our three-day stay. Fortunately, no fire was found.

The breakfast selection was ok, the location was great.

It was a pity that we couldn't have a twin bedded room. My husband prefers to have sheets and blankets. We managed because we take a large sheet with us which we used on this occasion together with one small blanket we had in the car and a couple of other small blankets in the room.

Everything about this accommodation was fine. I said the location was good but not excellent. This is because for us it was ok but I can see that for others it might be a problem. Orphir is in between Stromness and Kirkwall so evening meals were a good 8/9 miles away by car. there was one restaurant in the village but that closed by 8 pm which wasn't of use to us as we needed to eat around 8.30 each night.

Nothing, I have stayed in numerous hotels over more than 35 years of being on the road. The Orkney Lodge is one of the best I have had the pleasure of staying in for business or pleasure.

Once again my stay at the Orkney Lodge was very pleasant, the room was very clean & quiet, very comfortable bed & excellent clean bathroom. A hearty breakfast is served in the morning also. This is my first choice hotel when travelling to the islands & will be using it again on subsequent trips. Booking is advisable as they do get very busy, which is not surprising considering the high standards they adhere too.

Have to drive - to Kirkwall, Stromness etc. to find pubs / restaurants. (There is a place in Orphir open most days, but it looks like someone's house)

Friendly, helpful owners, comfortable rooms. Good location for exploring from. Next to the ferry for Hoy, which is handy if you're island hopping. Waulkmill Bay is a beautiful beach a short drive or a longish walk away. Hobbister nature reserve too. Orkney's Neolithic sites are astonishing: Skara brae is a must see, but so are so many others. More treasures keep being discovered: barn house by Stones of Stennes, the tomb of the otters, near the tomb of the eagles, to name a couple. Skerries bistro is v good, with Great views. Wildlife abounds. Great skuas, arctic terns, guillemots, fulmars etc. Hen harriers, Arctic Skuas, red throated divers. And there's the Highland Park distillery too. Well worth a visit.
