Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomSurprisingly given prices the property though lovely appeared in need of maintenance both minor and more major. Several lightbulbs not working in major light clusters eg in main bar one bulb gone same in bedroom. Main door in sitting room onto garden warped and left huge gap at top..fine in summer but....windows at top of f house looked in need of paint and potentially rotten. Shoehorn in bedroom would be useful. These minor matters and had wonderful stay but at price paid they took shine off visit. G
Restaurant superb and serving superb tasting menu. Stay of only one night so was unable to try 2nd restaurant but wouldn't have wanted to go main restaurant for more than one dinner.

United KingdomIt was incredibly hot in our room so we did t sleep particularly well. The fan provided was quite poor. I appreciate air conditioning is tricky in a listed building but a stronger fan would be greatly appreciated in the rooms.
The location, food, room, grounds. It’s just a fabulous place to start!

MaltaMinor quibbles only: should be a fridge with chilled drinks in every room without any need to ask. No porter at the door to help (or only intermittently available as doubling up on the Reception desk). Parking a little awkward - 250 yards from the hotel. Sauna in room nice to have but hard to operate - in our case the instructions were stuck in Russian and we never got it up and running! Internet wasn't working throughout our stay and mobile data weak. Parts of the gardens need more work, especially the 'formal garden'.
Nice, comfortable rooms/suites. Very pleasant staff. Great park and gardens. Good breakfast and a really top-rate restaurant for dinner (which sadly only does a tasting menu - not something much wanted 2 nights running, for example, though there's a small menu available in the bar...)

United KingdomI booked this room for my wife's 65th birthday. My wife was not well and could not make it up to the room we had originally booked (on the first floor). The staff matched the room quality with a ground floor room and provided assistance (wheel chair) to allow her to get too from the Avenue restaurant. The taster menu from Tom was exceptional and the staff made up for the changes in booking we had to make. Thank you to everyone, you saved the day.

United KingdomOur room was on the second floor with no elevator. Not an easy feat to haul all our luggage plus pram plus baby up and down the stairs. The temperature in the room fluctuates a lot depending on the time of day. Again, not immediately comfortable with a baby.
Exceptionally well maintained grounds. Lush greenery abounds

United KingdomWhile some of the staff were excellent, In the main they were not up to the standard of luxury hotel. I had to look for people at one point in order to get a drink. Also there is no going the extra mile. I wanted some simple sandwiches made for an outing the following day, for which I would have paid. I was told this could not be done.
Excellent room, refurbished and very comfortable. Good food. Freindly and efficient check in and out. Very pretty locale.

It is a beautiful house and my room and bathroom were very large. My bathroom had a beautiful free-standing bath as well as a very good walk-in shower. My room had windows on 3 sides. 2 sides looked at other parts of the building so I tended to keep the shutters for those closed. What I liked most of all were the wonderful staff - always polite, friendly and helpful. They made it a very relaxing stay.

United KingdomAbsolutely beautiful, I had taken my mum away for her birthday in one of the family suites. Bathrooms are absolutely luxurious. Rooms are amazing. Breakfast options were phenomenal. We booked the avenue restaurant which has a tasting menu. As expected everything was delicious. We were extremely impressed with the staff. Only issue is it was missing a hair dryer in the room was the only issue.

Everything about the hotel is perfection - from the actual building / interior to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, and the locally produced food and drinks. Staff went above and beyond - this kind of customer service isn’t easy to find nowadays, but Lainston have it in abundance! Truly magical place. For dinner we dined at the Wellhouse. I have dined at a lot of nice restaurants in my life, but the food and dining experience here was truly next level. Absolutely stunning food - all fresh and using local produce - and with a chef (Charlie) who is a genius and clearly has an incredible passion for cooking. So, so impressive - we had the most perfect evening. The staff at Wellhouse (Megan, George, Olivia & Josyan) really made the experience and could not have been more friendly and helpful - they all deserve a lot of credit.

United KingdomThe property is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are amazing (especially the gentleman who checked us in and showed us to our room). We visited on my birthday and were lucky enough to receive complementary chocolates and a small amount of gin as a present - we really appreciated this touch! Our room itself had a beautiful view over a grassy courtyard, the bed was huge and super comfortable, and we even had a bath with a TV above it which was amazing and really added to the relaxing getaway! Everything was up to a fabulous standard and we would definitely return.

United KingdomOn a rare escape from the children, we were looking forward to a meal and a quiet evening before settling down to a comfortable sleep (as usual). There was a wedding reception in the hotel and our room was right next to the barn where the reception was. We called down to check and were told it wouldn’t go on later than 10:30. The music was loud and thumping until 11:30 when it was turned down, then quieter but still audible until 1:30am. Not what I expect from a usually perfect stay.
It’s a beautiful house, well kept and attended by the staff. We stayed here on our wedding night so it holds happy memories for us. We have been back a number of times in the following 18 years.
