Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe size of the room, nothing like the picture when we booked. No wardrobe just a hanger which u could hang a couple of garments on. so basically lived out of a suitcase for four days. we ate in the restaurant one night and i have to say for the price it wasnt the best food i have ever had.
The castle and surroundings were stunning But what i liked most of all was one staff member called Andrew the receptionist He was very professional but had a great sense of humour which made my stay better.

United KingdomI was with my adult son, who has a learning disability - he is prone to anxiety, but the staff in the bar and restaurant couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. The young woman who I think may have been the bar manager(dressed all in black) was outstanding. A little star. I was also impressed by the attentiveness of the staff serving breakfast, who did everything possible to support my son, when he was struggling. Thank you all so much.

United KingdomThe guest up stairs clumped around for an hour in the middle of the night. 🙄
It looked posh and it was. The staff treated us with old fashioned respect but were also down to earth. The breakfast was a wonderful experience. If we lived closer we’d definitely go there on a regular basis.

United KingdomStayed in courtyard room as had a dog. Room required a bit of an refresh, a little musty but didn't bother me as in a historic building. Price for a dog per night a bit steep, appreciate the need for a fee but £25pn seems high. Tea and coffee in room could be a little higher end given the price,ie twinings tea and maybe coffee machine.
Beautiful castle. Lovely walk through the Wood for the dog. Lounge bar was nicely decorated and the food was fantastic as was the espresso martini, best I've ever had. Cappuccino in the morning also lovely. Staff were exceptional, friendly but had a regal feel which was fitting to the establishment. Powerful shower and comfy bed. Highly recommend a stay here.

United KingdomUnfortunately, the gentleman who does the guided tours was away and aside from an A4 sheet there didn’t seem to be anyone who knew the history of the castle to talk to which was a great shame. One silly thing, we had two keys, one to the outside door, one to the room, both identical, every time I got the wrong key to the room, maybe a distinguishing difference would be helpful?
This is a stunning castle, heaped in history and loved we had access to the state rooms and able to explore. The staff were so well trained, friendly and so happy to help. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were superb. Will definitely come back and stay. This is by far the best overall place we’ve stayed. Fabulous

United KingdomThe location is good as it’s not far from the cricket ground and around a 10 - 15 minute walk to Chester-le-street. Very good breakfast choices and nice room. Not overly big but comfortable bed, decent shower. Would stay here again.

United KingdomThe bathroom needs some attention to detail (unfinished painting of the bath panel makes it look tatty) there was no plug socket anywhere near the tea tray, as ever never enough milk supplied to make.more than 1 drink. Not overly impressed with the evening meal in the restaurant. Severe lack of parking when there are events happening.
Comfiest bed we have ever slept in (so comfy we have purchased the same mattress for home) breakfast was lovely, location and grounds are lovely to walk around. The bedroom was very clean. Loved the history of the place - alas we didn't see any ghosts
