Some huge inconsistencies made my stay really frustrating. This hotel aims to be excellent and mostly is, however jarring errors marred my stay unfortunately. Cold poached eggs served on both mornings. Unwashed salad on lounge snack lunch with insect on plate. 2 staff were asked separately for bill to sign at the end of dinner. Both then busied themselves doing other things. Had to stand and wait for bill at entrance in the end. Some deep cleaning in bedroom (8) and snagging would be very beneficial. 3/10 Reception listened to my concerns on departure and made some concessions.

The staff are really eager to please. Lovely welcome on arrival. Staff showed me round and helped to arrange a fridge for my room. I had lovely dinners on both evenings. 2 Spa experiences were super relaxing. 10/10

The room itself was very hot. We tried to turn off the radiators many times but the knobs didn’t appear to be working so it was like a sauna. Thankfully there was a Dyson fan in the room.

Absolutely stunning hotel, staff were exceptionally good, room was clean and the bed was super comfy. Relatively baby friendly (we have a 4-month old) except no lifts in the hotel so we had to leave the pram in reception. Great location and excellent that there were two car parks for hotel guests too. Spa facilities looked top notch, although we didn’t use them.

We didn't like having to walk through the dining room to get to our room, but accept it's a quirk of an old building.

Small niggles, One - the room was a little small for the very large bed and it was too near the radiator but I managed to avoid injury. Two - bookings for dinner are not available at our preferred time of 7 to 7:30pm as none are taken between 6:30 and 8:00pm. Never encountered that arrangement before.

Everything was wonderful, food superb and room very comfortable and well-appointed. Staff were great, nothing too much trouble.

The food at the restaurant was unfortunately pretty poor. A few years ago it was outstanding, this time (now with the James Martin name…) it was badly cooked, lacked in flavour and the dessert tasted stale and bland. I wouldn’t return to the restaurant.

It’s our second time there and the property is lovely. Very traditional old building, characterful, staff is fabulous.

The service charge on drinks from the bar was a quite a surprise - 15% So two cocktails were £18.00 each however with the service charge this brought the cost close to £42 however what really stung though was the Negroni was really standard pub quality drink!

Beautiful building and location. Room was cozy and very comfortable bed. The Spa pool was much better than we expected However due to our short stay only had time for a quick swim. Staff were lovely especially on reception.

Some parts of the hotel needed renovation. Our bathroom was lovely but the bedroom left a little to be desired for the price we paid. I expected more for my money.

The spa is well equipped and very clean. We both had a facial and which were amazing. The property is absolutely beautiful and picturesque.

The food in the Grill was very poor. Not even good pub standard for us. Such a shame for such beautiful and historic room to be let down by such below par food. Unimaginative menu and poorly executed. Some amazing food served over the years in this room , but certainly not now. Bring back Martin blunos!!! The shabby , water damaged menu on show outside the grill street door was in hindsight a sign of things to come....

Lovely sense of history and great room. Lots of cosy places to sit and chill.
