Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe parking was a bit difficult as there seems to be a limited amount of spaces in the nearby lot, however staff were very helpful in informing us where we could park and with providing a parking permit for the night within the hotel grounds. We did have a little bit of a walk from the car park to the hotel but it wasn't a massive deal as we were still within a good range of the hotel
The room was very spacious and clean, the bathroom was very big and modern, also very clean. The location of the hotel was very central to what we needed and the staff were lovely and very friendly/helpful

AustraliaThere was NOTHING AT ALL to dislike.
The hotel had a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and I appreciated most of all the unceasing engagement, enthusiasm and politeness and "happy to look after you" attitude of the lovely staff members. Our room was very comfortable, had a beautiful view, and the bathroom very easy to use. I'd love to stay with "The Scholar" again. Many thanks to Shannon and Cheryl. Their service and care was outstanding.

United KingdomThe room and bathroom were a great size. Really accessible for everyone. The views were stunning and it was a nice walk to the theatre / centre of town. We were also able to park which was helpful.

United KingdomThe television didn’t work properly. The channels were very limited (there were no BBC channels) and those that were there were heavily pixelated. We reported it but nothing was done. The wi-fi was unreliable. We were pleased there was a coffee maker but that didn’t work either.
The room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good value for money.

NetherlandsThe location was very convenient for us as we were visiting the University. It is in a quiet location. The restaurant was very nice. The staff in reception and the restaurant were very helpful and nice and solved all our requests: taxi, kept the luggage for the day, allergies… the wifi was good both for breakfast and dinner. It felt quite distinguished to my family. The decoration was good. The room was not very spacious but big enough for us.

United KingdomThe gentleman who checked us in shirt could have done with a press. I thought the breakfast a little expensive although delicious. My double room was difficult to pass by bed to get to tea & coffee facilities as so close to wall (room 319)
Nice and quiet location with free parking. The staff were polite and friendly with a special mention to Cheryl on breakfast service. The toiletries provided were loverly and beds very comfortable. Loverly little bar area which served delicious sandwiches which were huge!

United KingdomNothing it was great.
Great location under Arthur’s seat. The beds and pillows were so comfy. All the staff were very friendly especially the breakfast staff and Cheryl ordered some sausages for our dog which I thought was lovely. If you’re bringing a dog it’s a great hotel to visit. The shower and the toiletries provided were quality.

United KingdomHard to figure out exactly where it is from the map / instructions - my advice is to follow google maps !
Small, boutique-like, mid-market hotel managed by the University of Edinburgh, and located on the Pollock Halls of Residence site, southwards of the Old Town, next to Arthur's Seat and the Royal Commonwealth Pool aquatics complex. This is a relatively quiet area about 30 min on foot from the centre of the city (Princes Street) although that can be considerably shortened by making use of Edinburgh's excellent public transport buses . Good value for money at the price I paid (although the room was indeed tiny). The full Scottish breakfast was excellent.

United KingdomNot a dislike really but be aware the property is next door to the Commonwealth Pools complex so there is a slight hum from all the systems that keep the pool running.
1.Staff were super-friendly; 2. our room (a deluxe twin) was on the third floor on a corner so we had double-aspect windows with - believe it or not - Edinburgh afternoon spring sunshine streaming into the room; 3. you are just metres away from Holyrood Park - walks to Arthur’s Seat and Duddingston Loch are a must!

United KingdomA little bit pricey
This is our favourite hotel in Edinburgh and probably stayed here on over ten occasions. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious, quiet and very comfortable with a massive bed. Loads of room. The staff at this hotel are superb, all of them. Always have been and not once have we ever had any issues or concerns. It is a genuinely a great hotel Prices have gone up by quite a bit and it use to be quite reasonably priced but now its a bit on the more expensive side (at least for our last stay)
