Comfortable stay in a unique cottage to enjoy the facilities of Whitby

Not a problem for us but double bed is high up, you need to be fit. But it did add to character of cottage

Excellent location near Whitby harbour, with all facilities close by. Comfortable with everything you need.

Lots of stairs, and the bed was weird. The bed is elevated and against a wall. Wouldn't recommend if you have mobility issues. Great holiday house for a young family, in spite of this.

Great for the beach, amusements, and sightseeing

The bathroom is small and on the ground floor, the sink is the size of a small cloakroom one. The plug didn’t work properly, water just drained away, I will report this. There are 4 floors, one room on each floor, I was on the top floor which made it a long way down to the toilet

The location, kitchen well equipped Wi Fi and TV,s

Disappointed, we had to return home on the second day

My wife got an electric shock in the shower, on investigating I got an even bigger shock from the towel rail. I contacted the owners of the property and they sent an electrician to check the electrics. As the property was unsafe until the fault was repaired, the owners referred us to the holiday support, holidaycottages.co.uk who were unable to find us a suitable alterative. We returned home on the second day of our holiday.

Not really a dislike Property behind a fresh fish shop. So outside smells of fish. Once inside we didn't notice the smell. After all it's still a fishing town and the fish range sold is great. The bathroom is on the ground floor, Main bedroom is at the top of house so midnight loo runs were the only issue. ]

The little touches ie: tea/coffee/biscuits/milk on arrival. Kept up to date on all info before arrival for everything. Took a huge stress off us. The house couldn't have been in a more perfect location. You can unload out front and then find a place to park. Literally out of the front door 50ft roughly,to harbour, pubs, shops, restaurants. Decorated in good taste and as pictured. Towels, loo rolls supplied, as well as carrier bags for your food shop. Cleaning products under the sink. Dog friendly. Baby gate for children/pet. The whole house is extremely well thought out. Accident alarms for around your neck x2. The property has five sets of wooden stairs. We didn't have a problem with but others might find slightly steep. We both loved 1 Pier Lane. Highly recommend.

The bathroom is on the ground floor - now if you have bad legs or don't like to work out it might be a problem. We didn't mind, however, the sink in the bathroom was tiny- it was funny to try and wash your face/hands in there, definitely a challenge! The bathroom does have an extraction fan but it didn't do much to be honest- the place did not dry out very well after all 3 of us had showers, so something to consider. The bed in the master bedroom was a bit difficult to climb on as it was very high, however it was nice and comfortable once on(we do prefer firm mattresses so loved it). We found the ground floor to be a bit chilly but there's heaters everywhere (we couldn't figure out how to switch the towel rail in the bathroom on though). Also something for the hosts to consider - there was no soap at the property. I really wanted to wash my hands once we arrived but had to go to the shop and buy some soap-a tiny thing so could be easily improved :)

The cottage was lovely - we like old buildings anyway so it was a pleasure to stay there and we certainly appreciated the exposed beams, sash windows and the decor-it's very pleasant on the eye. Place was really clean and some of the things we found were nice-like a box with different cables(to charge your phones etc), sky tv in every room with all possible subscription channels (so we could watch some tv comfortably in the evening), a huge amount of kitchen utensils - everything from baking trays to measuring cups, kitchen foil etc. The location was perfect too! Despite the little things in "what didn't you like" section i mentioned we loved the property and would definitely come back:)

The stairs made our stay less relaxing. We had a toddler who had to be watched all the time. Although we made the most of our stay we wouldn't have stayed there had we known about the stairs. Would have been useful to have a washing up bowl and toaster. The kitchen wasn't big enough to have the table up and open the oven door.

    The decor and the cleanliness
