There wasn’t much it to like, although, because of its age, there were minor flaws which the staff are trying hard to keep up with. Mentioning any slight matter resulted in immediate action.

This is an old property which maintained many interesting features. It is charming and has facilities for large functions as well as extensive outdoor facilities. The location is excellent for visiting the area and is quite close to the river. There is plenty of parking immediately adjacent to the property.

Well, I would say that, in general, you have to look passed the fact that the furnishings / interior spaces are a bit 'tired.' The rooms are clean, however, and the history of the place and the extremely friendly staff totally eclipse that fact. The quality of the locally sourced food was good but the menu was not quite right - just a bit old fashioned and mixed up. Still, had the best sausage I've ever had - so that can't be bad! ;-)

The staff here were wonderful! From the moment we walked in, Tori was the epitome of a warm welcome. As a last-minute booking, we truly hadn't been expecting too much, so were completely blown away with the history of this place. Kevin, Milly and the lady who had worked with horses (can't remember her name now..), all of them were just marvelous. The gardens here are also beautiful - just what we needed after a full day of hiking and exploring.

The room was excellent with a very spacious bathroom with individual bath and shower. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. It was a shame you could only choose one option of the cooked breakfasts but the buffet was nice and the surroundings very pleasant.

Of course, no lift (wasn't expecting one) and a bit of a trek to the room, not for those with mobility issues. The quality of the food in the restaurant was ok but I had a human hair in my meal which was not nice at all, although I was offered an alternative. The reception area was cramped and overcrowded, one could see piles of bits of paper behind the desk as one walked down the stairs - messy - and the reception staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Also, no staff in the building at night, which would be a problem if there were a fire or a medical emergency. Luckily, we had neither during our stay. One has to book a time slot in the dining room for breakfast, the previous night - so you need to set the alarm to make sure you don't miss your allocated space.

Tons of character. The main dining hall is super. The room was lovely, again lots of character, stone fireplace, big windows. Once we had worked out how to use it, the shower was fine. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly enough. We were lucky enough to have a sprinkling of snow on our first morning. The place seems to be popular as an eating destination with local people, which is usually a good sign. We chose to dine in the hotel and the menu offers plenty of traditional fare.

The heating was adequate but could have been easier to control.

The staff were very friendly and supportive. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was excellent being cooked to order. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable. We also attended a wedding reception there and the food great.

It’s like any other hotel, not soundproof, a bit noisy and can hear lots of water/pipes etc; but I just stick in my ear plugs. I don’t think I can fault it on this.

Delicious fish pie, chunky fresh fish and lots of perfectly cooked veg in the side. Felt like a home cooked meal which is just what I wanted after a long day hiking. Staff were super friendly and helpful. It really has the feel of a family run hotel. Room was cosy and clean, spotless bathroom, felt quite new. I had an awesome sleep too, I’ll definitely be back!

There was a wedding evening party . We were warned prior to visit good communication from staff . Our compact room was above the venue it was room shaking loud however ended promptly at 11 .

Very clean and tidy rooms. Due to the time of year (No ferry) it was very nice to have the facility of a restaurant and bar onsite.

A bit creaky, we were woken up by people walking down stairs that went over our room.
