Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe EXTRA cost per hour to use the pool. You have to leave a £50 pn deposit booking in, then have to wait several days for it to be returned. If you have breakfast charged to room you have to pay for this separately not out of the deposit.
The bed was comfy, the room quiet and clean. Wardrobe was short so no long dresses.

United KingdomLovely setting & nice rooms
Very surprised it was self service breakfast on Sunday considering the rating of the hotel expected waiter service similar to Saturday. The lift broke down and for those with crutches or walking sticks had to go up & Down stairs in some cases to the second floor would have thought the management could have considered the impact this caused.

Friendly staff management dealt with issues beyond their control promptly, and we would stay again.

United KingdomWe ate in the fish restaurant, the food was good but the restaurant was soulless. I would prefer to go offsite for dinner next time. There wasn't many guests eating in their and the area was too big to fill. Would be good to have a communal bar open in the hotel, we sat in a quite room on our own and were served by the night staff after 10 pm. We were unable to get into the spa area the next day before 4 pm but we had to be out of our room by 11 and worked in my room on the day of arrival until 6 pm. If we had known when we booked 8 weeks before, we would have booked a treatment.
We were 2 woman just wanting a night away. First room was small for a twin but we were moved to a nice size room. We walked around the grounds the next day and this was nice and spent some time in the coffee/bar shop/restuarant. Breakfast in our room was really good and we didn't mind paying £5 for the luxury of that.

United KingdomThe walls are a bit thin (which is to be expected in building of this age), so you can hear others outside the room if they’re being noisy. Breakfast a a bit of a let down, I would not recommend scrambled eggs and you have to ask for toast at the table which was never explained. Dinner was better, but still slightly let down by the quality in some aspects. I had the fish and chips on the first night, the portion was huge! The chips were oven chips that you would cook at home which was a shame but perfectly edible. The second night I had pasta which was. Lot better, but both times I was unable to have a pudding (which look lovely), as I was simply too full. There was a wedding on the Thursday night which was quite loud and kept me up, however it did end at midnight which I thought was reasonable. The gym is on the small side and all equipment is rusty and in need of replacing.
The hotel is beautiful and room furnished nicely. It was relatively quiet when there isn’t a function on though, and the staff did their best to place me in a room away from the noise which you can request in the online check in). Staff became more friendly throughout my stay, they were quite standoffish at first but were definitely friendlier and more welcoming on my second day here. They have a good range of amenities on site, and although it says you have to book into the garden restaurant, both nights were quiet and you could walk in (wed-thurs). The bread was probably the best thing I had, it was delicious! For the price, it is a lovely stay and the grounds are beautiful.

United KingdomIf I had to be picky… Lighting in the bar too bright, TV too rowdy, signs to the gym were wrong and gym was not marked so I spent 15 mins walking around trying to find it.
Goats cheese salad was really good, one of the best salads I have eaten in a long time. Moved table three times first was under the speaker, second was by a slightly open window and was too cold then we sat near the lift not ideal but ok. My colleague has morning sickness and the bar staff adapted her meal which was hugely appreciated and really helpful. Room was excellent.

Breakfast was good, except for the cappuccino I had to pay extra for. The flavour was awful. Hotel and grounds are lovely and our room was very nice. Good facilities. Just a little issue - the aircon didn't seem to cool the room and the bed had plastic sheeting which made for a terribly hot and sweaty night. Neither of us slept well at all.

United KingdomThe room wasn’t actually in Orsett Hall itself. It was above a cafe bar and spa. We had food in the bar which wasn’t very good. The chicken in the chicken burger was tougher than Mike Tyson with the hump. A bottle of wine which costs £10 in Tesco was being sold for £27. Food and drink is overpriced.
Setting is nice.
