How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Maybe a little behind with some maintenance. One of the lights in our room didn’t work. This was remedied very quickly. There was also a problem with the shower over the bath. By the time we discovered this (we only stayed one night) it was too late to do anything about it for our stay.
Lovely location. Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. Our waitress was brilliant!

Get rid of unhygienic shower curtain. Modernise the bathroom and get rid of bath.

I do have a concern around health and safety! The used linen is always kept in the stairwell, which smells and could be a potential fire hazard... And no sign of anyone overseeing the swimming pool but assume that's on camera? Our apartment was on ground floor and while it had disabled ramps, they actually weren't marked out from the carpet and were a trip hazard, and there was no turning space for anyone on a walker or in a chair, so a waste of time really, especially as they are really steep!! Certainly worth a look please.
Location is perfect as my parents have a timeshare there! Great it has a pool and the pub and a bar... Nice apartment as well. Have been visiting and staying for years on and off. Place needs a little work but the staff are lovely and friendly.

Swimming pool was really cold. We were disappointed to have to put our own duvet covers and pillow cases on for the sofa bed.
The apartments, whilst a little dated, were perfect for our needs and contained everything we needed.

That there were no EV charging facilities.
Staff were warm and friendly, sitting at breakfast taking in lovely view of estuary.

Breakfast was a little on the small side in terms of options, but that may be because it was very out of season and not many guests were staying. The quality of the breakfast was absolutely fine though.
The location of the hotel is really nice alongside the river, and only a short walk to Newton Abbot city centre via a lovely scenic walk. The staff were friendly on arrival and throughout the stay and the leisure facilities were great for us as a small family. The pub next to the hotel (same owners) was also really nice for a carvery and the staff there were great too. There's good car parking facilities too.

the room was a little cold but it was -6 outside , carpet in front a bit thread bare around the desk
All the staff were very friendly from reception to bar staff to waiting on staff , the evening meal food quality was excellent and a cracking breakfast to start the day off plenty of free parking in summer will be nice to sit on the patio looking over the river watching the world go by

Pubes on the sheet and how cold it was
Was a really nice hotel, we stayed in the apartments. When we got the settee bed out the bed had a sheet on already and was covered in black pubes :-( changed and cleaned it. Only other issue was how cold it was In the front room even with the radiator on full constantly

Every thing was OK.
Location and staff very nice, lovely to have a balcony, with stunning views of the river, even in winter. Good pub next door.

Area was nice. Views we good. Room was pleasant. Hotel was nice. Didn't see facility's wasn't there long enough.
