No blind in bathroom and as we were on ground floor it could have been very awkward as beyond the window was a car park. Fortnite not too busy.

There were sometimes very limited staff. Reception was not always 'manned', and a notice told you to go to the Bar, which was not always 'manned' either. A simple bell at reception and at the bar would overcome this problem. I appreciate that in January there were not many guests, but a bell would overcome this problem. Breakfast was good, and served in the restaurant, but there were no fish options. Dinner was served in the bar, which could be on the cool side, and why dinner was not served in the restaurant, I cannot fathom - it would have been a far better option. The menu for dinner was limited, and if you were staying a week or more, the menu became rather boring. I would have expected the menu to be changed on a weekly basis, or at least a couple of 'specials' to be available each day. There were no electrical sockets in a convenient position or height. There were too few electrical sockets overall, in that in the area of the fridge, coffee machine etc, there were insufficient sockets for the electrical equipment in the room, let alone for charging you phone etc. Lighting in the area of the coffee machine was inadequate. Housekeeping was also not up to standard on some days. I was told that linen (bed sheets etc) would be changed every 3 days, but this didn't happen, unless you asked. On some days, complimentary tea & coffee were not fully replenished, and whilst reception always had further supplies, it was a nuisance and inconvenient to have to go and ask. If an exposed and windy location is not to your liking, this is not the hotel for you!

I stayed in a 'superior' room, on a 'half board' basis (Dinner, bed & breakfast). The room was reasonably spacious, and had a fridge and a Tassimo coffee machine. It also had two comfortable chairs and a small table. The room was clean and comfortable. The value was excellent, in January, but I am sure that it would be more expensive at other times of the year. The location was good, a short distance from Huddersfield, in an exposed position at the top of a hill, with good views. The staff were friendly, and generally helpful. There were excellent parking facilities. Breakfast was good and freshly prepared (hence you had to wait a little while for it), and dinner was also good, but a fairly limited choice. Overall it was a good stay at a very competitive price.

The number of staff around was sometimes limited. Reception could be unstaffed, and you were told to go to the bar, which could also be unstaffed! A simple bell at reception, and at the bar, to inform the hotel that somebody was needing attention, would be simple and sensible. There could be very few staff on duty at any one time, and hence they had to multi task, and the quality of service wasn't always that good. Whilst there was a reasonable breakfast menu, but there were no fish options. The dinner menu was limited, and if staying for a couple of weeks, it became somewhat boring. I would have thought that the menu should be changed each week, or at least a couple of daily specials should be available. The bar area where dinner was served was often quite chilly. Why dinner was not served in the restaurant which was much warmer, I fail to understand (breakfast was served in the restaurant). Housekeeping was very variable. Unless you asked to have the bed linen changed every three days, it did not happen. Sometimes all the complimentary tea/coffee etc was not replenished - reception could always provide what was missing but it should have been done properly in the first place.

I stayed in a 'superior' room on a half board basis (dinner, bed & breakfast). The value was excellent in late January, but likely to be more expensive at other times of the year. The room had a Tassimo coffee making machine and a fridge. Service and staff were usually good. The room was comfortable, with two comfortable chairs. The room was clean and linen should have been changed every three days, with towels on request. Breakfast was good, and freshly cooked to order, (so not very quick service) and the waitress was friendly and helpful. Dinner was also good, but limited in choice. Plenty of parking was available. The hotel was at the top of a hill with great views, but it was very exposed, and in poor weather somewhat difficult. The stay was good overall, and good value.
