How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Bed was far too firm for my liking. I didn't sleep well because of it. Which is a shame as the rest of the stay was perfect.
Room was clean and well looked after. Had all the features you'd expect, iron, hair dryer, safe, etc.

The bed could have been a little less stiff, but was still more than comfortable enough.
Good location for visiting ExCel. Nice room.

There was an odd smell in the bathroom which the extractor fan helped with slightly but it must have been drainage problem. I didn’t report this to the reception but I’m sure they would have helped if they knew.
The staff were super helpful and accommodating to any request. I requested a larger airy room and got just that which I’m so grateful for and they walked me back and forth to the parking space when I would come back late at night. It felt very safe which as a young female alone was important for me. The bed was so comfortable. I thought because I was facing the street it would be noisy but with the window shut you really can’t hear anything so I had the best sleep. I love how many lighting options there were and plug sockets not like many other hotels. The bathroom and bedroom were very clean and the rainfall shower was 10/10.

Price was a bit high for what I am used to paying but location was important for Excel so was happy to pay for the convenience

Could do with a carpet clean.
The receptionist was just lovely! Very helpful, friendly, couldn’t be more pleasant. The room was a good size, nice to have a balcony for the fresh air. Shower pressure was good, clean bed, clean towels. The decor could do with a bit of a refresh, including the bed throw and the carpet. I’d stay again.

The room had no windows, but a balcony door facing an unexpected smoking room in the building, and the shower door was broken

Really welcoming staff who were really helpful. A good location, only a 10 minute walk from the Excel center. Comfy beds and no noise from roads so I had a good nights sleep.

Mattress needs replacing but you won’t know that if no one has told you before now
Excellent service from the staff, secure locked parking. Very clean, warm, great water pressure. Quiet, plenty of shops close by. Will stay again next time I need to be in London. Better than I expected for the price. Thank you for looking after us

Would have wanted a bigger room . More space . Bigger bed. I didn’t get to see the room options.
It was conveniently located from the metro line . About 5-7 minute walk. Also located about 5 minutes from Excel London. So that was good. They also gave me a complementary breakfast .

The location was central to all my activities. Easily accessible to the buses and train. The place was cosy and felt like home. There was everything I needed, an elevator to go up the room functioned well. The kitchen made it easy to warm food. All amenities were functional

Any issues I had were dealt with immediately, nothing else to say.
The location was walking distance from the Excel, half the price of hotels closer and the staff were perfect! Any minor issues I had were immediately dealt with faster than anywhere I have been before, will 100% return if I’m ever in the area again.
