How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The hotel is located near the centre of Swanage and offers comfortable rooms and an excellent breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful at all times. Full marks.

Cannot really think of anything.
My room was very clean and comfortable, had good wifi and flatscreen tv with lots of channels. The deco is old fashion in main hotel but I like that, they have bought somethings up to date like wifi and USB charging points but kept the charm of the place. Excellent breakfast and very friendly staff. Location is perfect 3 min walk to town centre with pubs and restaurants. I have stayed here many times over the years after trying B&Bs and renting flats, I now always stay here. cannot really think of anything

The stairs! But that was because we had done hilly walks and runs.
It was a convenient location for us. Love the character of the property. Breakfast was delicious.

A bit creaky as you'd expect from a historical hotel!
Lovely old building, good service, great location. The garden also looked wonderful though I didn't have time to explore it.

Breakfast used to be included in the price but is now charged separately. Not the end of the world and it's still a good breakfast, but does mean we now pay more each stay
We've been staying here for years. Great location and a gorgeous property! Never had any issues and staff have always been super friendly. We're at the point now where this is our go-to hotel in Swanage and always aim for room 7!

More warm options other than fryup ( I appreciate was out of season, so probably more to offer when hotel is full) I'm sure thru would have accommodated if asked.
Breakfast was ok, fast service. Both cold and warm options.

The room was far to hot at first, but better than being cold otherwise no complaints at all.
Wonderful old building with lots of character, though a little shabby in places. Very friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Well located with good parking.

Could have done with more power sockets in the room to recharge my phone and the shower room was very small also very low water pressure in the shower.
Room was dated but clean and warm. location was good and car parking was available.

Bathroom and room outdated
Building and grounds are beautiful! Was like a castle and so pretty. Inside the hotel was very historic and beautiful.

When booking, I assumed the price included breakfast as I had read they were good in the reviews. I eat breakfast but my wife does not so I didn't have breakfast in the hotel as I would have been on my own.
Great location, plenty of parking and cosy room. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom with a bath! All the staff were lovely.

I could not lock the room from the inside.
This is an old property so don't expect modern facilities. However, it is different with lots of character. My room had everything I needed. The breakfast was very good

Lots of stairs to get to my room. Knees definitely beginning to feel it by the end of my stay.

We couldn't open the windows
We had a large room with big windows and a limited sea view, It was very comfortable. It was great to be able to walk into town and to the beach and coastal walks. Breakfast was good.

The shower was not very powerful or hot
Room was very comfortable and spacious. It was well cleaned everyday and all consumables such. as tea, coffee etc were replaced each day. Nice view from room. breakfast was good, plenty of choice and well presented. Staff were very helpful throughout the hotel.

The breakfast! It was highly processed and like something from the 1980s! Come on, you need to offer a more modern array of food, we don't all like tinned fruit and a fry up. Suggestions, homemade granola, porridge, fresh fruits like berries, better bread, smoked salmon, kippers, omelettes etcetc!
Room was lovely, very grand, and a view of the beautiful garden. Very quiet and comfortable.

It was a windy night and the sash windows rattled like mad.
Plenty of choice at breakfast. Room clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the gardens. Only a short walk from the beach.
