Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe beds were a little hard for our taste. Our pre-booked vegan dinner on the first night was a little disappointing.
A lovely relaxing experience with excellent friendly staff. The comfortable room had nice views over the lovely gardens. Breakfast was good. The hotel is situated a short way out of St Andrews in a lovely situation but within very easy distance to the town.

United KingdomService was slow in the bar and restaurant within the bar. They seemed short staffed and slightly overwhelmed when it got busy. Food was good though when it arrived.
We stayed in a shepherds hut in the grounds and it was lovely and quirky and very warm. The bath is gorgeous and the kitchen stocked well with tea and coffee facilities and homemade shortbread. Unfortunately the blind was broken on the front door which restricted privacy at night but aside from that no complaints with the hut at all. The staff in the main hotel were helpful and friendly on arrival and took our bags round to the hut on a golf buggy and we were guided to the hut. There’s sufficient parking outside the main building.

United Arab EmiratesThe menu options for lunch and dinner are a bit limited; having more variety would make it even better.
The cottage features details that are both thoughtfully considered and highly practical.

United KingdomThe decor is starting to look a bit tired - carpets in particular
Staff were really the highlight - so friendly, accommodating and could not do enough for you. They make it. The hotel itself has a wonderful vibe and feeling with wonderful gardens.

United StatesWhat a beautiful hotel! The gardens seen from our Turret room window were lovely. The room was very comfortable…especially the bed. We had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The weather was grand, and we enjoyed the balcony. The distance from St. Andrews was nice. It was quiet and peaceful without the traffic noise. I’d love to stay here again!

United KingdomA fridge in the room would have been beneficial. In the short time between initially considering booking the hotel and actually making the booking, the price had increased by £120 for a two night stay in a standard room. This was excessive and made the stay less good value.
The hotel staff are very welcoming and the hotel, itself, is tastefully decorated and the rooms well appointed. The gardens are extensive and lovely. The hotel is well situated a few miles away from St Andrews.

ItalyThis is the cosiest, most lovely cottage I’ve ever been into. We stayed at the Goldfinch house and it was a delight: it had all we needed to have a pleasurable stay. The main premise is also wonderful and the breakfast is rich and delicious. We were extremely sad to leave!

United StatesThe young waitress in the breakfast room was a bit short with me. But they were busy. Staff didn’t quite match the high standard of the hotel which was otherwise perfection. That would be my only criticism.
The gardens absolutely beautiful and their dedication to sustainability impressive. Kitchen garden absolutely inspiring. Food is also amazing.
