There are no twin rooms on the ground floor. My elderly mum struggled with the stairs.

The staff were really helpful and allowed us to change our plans at very short notice.

Moving around the hotel, carrying bags etc not easy if you have mobility issues. I was fine BUT other maybe not.

Location superb for why I wanted to be in Sheffield. Lack of a bar and no restaurant facilities not a problem, again related to why I was in Sheffield.

The room was described as an “Executive” room, which is unclear, but there was nothing that I considered more executive about it. It was in a difficult location for two people in their mid 70s to access and egress by two flights of stairs with no assistance with luggage offered. Location of our room was noisy with children playing on the stairs and noise - repeated coughing carried from another room at night. Room entrance doors were almost side by side. The room was dusty and the glass door to the bathroom was covered in grubby fingerprints - and I mean lots. Hygiene was a concern for that reason. There was a cigarette burn in the bathroom - despite smoking being banned. My wife is 5’3 and the toilet was too high. The overhead shower is fashionable - but there was no shower cap provided. I individual soaps or conditioners- just a half empty push top container. I was asked to pay 2 nights parking - an extra £18 - but my booking said “£ 9 parking fee per stay is included”. It wasn’t and I had to pay £18 extra. It just wasn’t problem free, which it ought to have been for £100 a night! And another £12.50 for breakfast? Premier Inn at half the price next time.

    Character and style.

The bed wasn’t comfy and had dips in where people have laid previously. The shower also was warm but wasn’t hot.

Location was great, we came to climb the Peak District which was only 30 minutes away. Staff were also super friendly!

The bed was too short. I'm 5'7 and my feet were getting over the edge of the bed if I lie straight. My husband is 6'4, so he was really uncomfortable at night. But we only stayed for one night, so it wasn't a huge deal. Just bear in mind that if you're tall and intend to stay for a lengthy period it might be better to check your options with the staff.

    Excellent location, very quiet.

Breakfast was average, nothing particularly great or well cooked about it. Car park available but with additional charge. In the middle of renovation - unavoidable, looking forward to seeing the hotel after the project is completed.

We definitely liked the room - comfortable bed, nice bathroom with a bathtub. The location was great - close to all we needed to do and see in Sheffield. Would definitely return if in need of going to this town again.

The air conditioning wasn't working. Grouting between tiles on the shower floor was black. Check-in time had been changed between booking and arrival. Things were generally a little worn around the edges. The fire alarm went off at 8.30am, which wasn't the hotel's fault, but didn't help. For the price paid, I would have expected rather better.

The room was cosy and comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering how close to the main road it is. Breakfast was adequate, staff were cheerful and apologetic about things that went wrong, although they couldn't fix them.

Comfortable stay as always but avoid Room 105

I was in room 105. Definitely needs some soundproofing. Very noisy couple above me - room 112 - could hear everything they said and everything on their telly. When they moved in their room it was VERY loud and creaky. They were still awake and active at 2.30am. I had asked reception to move me but the only room available was the one right next to them. I appreciate this is not the hotel's fault but they may want to think about soundproofing room 105.

I have stayed at the Rutland a number of times and it has always been a comfortable stay. Bed is comfy, staff very polite and helpful and the room is clean.

The whole building is very tired. We struggled a bit with the build up of dust on skirting boards and corners, we both have allergies , mould in the bathroom not necessary needs just bleach, it was better than last stay, I did comment, looks like it's been siliconed over! We had breakfast first visit can't recommend, deep fried hash browns, no tomato's, cheap sausage, coffee undrinkable , hence we did not have breakfast this second stay. I've had my own bed and breakfast for ten years, it's not that hard to get breakfast right, I prefer omelette, but no option available 😞

The staff are all lovely and the location perfect as my husband was having surgery at the Hallamshire close by, very comfortable bed, we both loved the original features of the Victorian building
