Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The shower needs an upgrade as it had no power, but the rest was lovely

The weather but it is early in the season
Their was a good breakfast with different options. The location was scenic and lots of options for dining out.

The beauty around and the location. It was out of the world.
It was in a beautiful serene location. Ian the host was so good. He gave personal attention to us. Overall the best stay we had.

Very warm and welcoming host who took the time to tell us about the area and showed us to our room. We booked the Rothay suite and it was fabulous. Over looked the gardens and the river. Huge tv, fresh milk for the room and very comfortable. Lovely breakfast selection. Amazing location. I booked it again as soon as we got back. Would highly recommend a visit

The traffic noise from the adjacent main road could be a little intrusive. Decor a little tired in places.
Fantastic location, centrally located in Rydal for many hikes and hillclimbs. Close to Ambleside where there are a large collection of shops cafes and restaurants. Lovely old character building with many quirky aspects. Large garden on edge of stream ... would be delightful on a summer's day. Very comfy beds and warm rooms. The Snug with coal fire is an inviting room to which to return on a cold/wet day. The honour bar is reasonably well-stocked and a lovely touch. Superb breakfast cooked by the new owner and host. Good luck with your plans to improve the property and its amenities, Iain.

The b&b is perfectly located in front of a bus stop that lets you easily move to any town in the Lake District. The staff is wonderful and super helpful and go out of their way to make the best out of your stay. The room where we stayed was clean, it was very spacious and comfortable with a big TV and a big bathroom. The breakfast was amazing, really delicious poached eggs, local sausages and hash browns. The coffee as very pleasant as well. The property has a very nice back garden right next to the river which is incredibly cute and peaceful.

Very tasty cooked breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, high ceilings, warm and well furnished bedroom, comfortable beds. Very convenient for local Hill walks and hikes, on a bus route and walking distance to a great pub restaurant.

Only improvement would be the availablility of feather pillows.

The room was small and on the main road so quite a bit if traffic noise .

The location was great, there were plenty of walks from the house, you could leave the car in the carpark. Also the bus service was good. The hosts were so helpful and accommodating. The garden was very relaxing to sit in and watch the birds. The breakfast was delicious.

Whole experience was lovely. Owners couldn't do enough for you. Such a relaxing place perfectly positioned. Great breakfast and an honesty bar with good selection of drinks. We'll definitely be back.
