For me as a personal choice I would have liked the shower head to be lower.

It's a hidden gem of a B&B. Lovely courtyard with sparkly lights. Beautiful airy room & spacious. Breakfast was very tasty. The hosts were very accommodating & friendly.

The bathroom was poor. The electric shower was weak and either too cold or too hot. I was looking forward to a nice hot powerful shower but got neither.

The bed was comfy. The breakfast was good.

Room could do with updating (less brown perhaps!), soft mattress, nowhere to put anything in the room or bathroom if you're only staying a couple of nights (I. e. like a shelf rather than putting everything in the wardrobe or on bedside tables or on the toilet cistern )

Friendly owners, wifi, tv, clean if a bit dusty, parking nearby, allowed to come and go as you please, good quality breakfast

Ensuite was too small, bordering on unusable and floor was stone cold. Bed was too soft for one of us. Whilst being hot breakfast was severely limited and stingy for vegetarians and options not forthcoming. Parking troublesome - not a pleasant stay.

Breakfast was hot. Room was warm.

The Ships Store B&B is in the town of Clare in the Stour River valley along the border of Suffolk and Essex. It's an area of beautiful rolling countryside full of charming medieval villages, thatched cottages, and ancient fields and farms. Clare is a old wool town (or large village?) steeped in history that offers access to the entire area. Hosts Debbie and Colin are terrific at creating a warm and comfortable home away from home with clean rooms, excellent beds, hearty breakfasts to set you up for the day, and advice on the area. Day trips in a 5-to-20 mile area abound, from Lavenham and Finchingfield to Sutton Hoo, Ipswich, and St. Edmunds, not to mention numerous stately homes and interesting churches. Ships Store is within easy walking distance of Clare's high street for shops, bank, post office, cafes, and restaurants. The Globe and Cock pubs are right across the street. We have stayed twice, given a comfortable room with a queen-size bed in the cottage on the back patio. Very quiet.

Friendly staff. Good choice for home-cooked breakfast. The dead spider in the shower let down the otherwise very clean, comfortable bedroom which was spacious. Recommend it highly.

Very pretty village and characterful B&B.
    • Leisure trip
    • Family with older children

Rooms lacked any real character and our room with 1 small double and 1 single bed did not really leave much room for anything else. No cupboards just a hanging rail. Bathroom VERY small (shower only) with poor amenities especially basin better suited to a small cloakroom. No parking available all the time we were there.

Very pretty village and characterful B&B. Lovely hosting and hospitality and nothing was too much trouble. Freshly cooked Suffolk breakfasts were very well cooked and presented and piping hot. Good access arrangements. OK for stopover.
