My only issue was that my mattress was a little springy but it was easily fixed with an extra duvet.

Lovely location, super responsive staff. Quirky old house with cosy shared rooms and a kitchen to use. I loved that the wood burner was ready to light. My room was basic, cosy and comfy and heated up nicely with the radiator. En suite bathroom was nice and clean and the shower was great. My room had a lovely view of the garden. It was nice to have facilities to use and a wood burner in the living room for the evening. Such a great base for my hiking. I'd definitely stay again. Reasonably priced.

There was an unpleasant smell on the ground floor: a mixture of damp and old cooking. The bin in the kitchen was really smelly too- and hadn’t been emptied for a few days. A bottle of 4 days out of date milk was in the fridge. The pool table floor was wet with damp.

The location is fantastic: overlooking the Eskdale Railway. It’s a beautiful old house with gorgeous reception rooms! If I’d wanted to cook, the communal kitchen had everything I’d need.

Missing connector end to TV coaxial cable in bedroom, hence TV didn't find any channels! I think guests have mentioned that TV didn't work in other reviews? Toilet in communal area could do with a door lock! Not the warmest place I have stayed, but for two nights I was the only guest in this huge building - I lit the wood burner and wore a jumper and was very cosy. Maybe a housekeeper or someone to do a short tour on guest arrival? It was only from other guests telling me which draw had the cutlery/ cups in and where the pool table was. Otherwise I may never had found the latter. Non of the above would stop me staying again as location is perfect

Wood burner with wood supply by entrance door. Fully equipped kitchen, large fridge/ freezer plus under counter fridge was able to cook with ease with everything I needed, apart from a bottle opener - but had my own with me! Two dishwashers Two ovens. Large range cooker Plenty of cups / plates/ cutlery/glasses/ utensils for a large number of people. Free phone to contact owner who is only 5 minutes away. Pool/ Billiard table in basement with huge smart TV a bonus Downstairs Toilet in communal area. Washing machine

Not a bad stay in the country.

Some part of the house feels like the renovations have only been half done. In our room, the shower head was paired with a really long hose, blocking the water from coming out from the shower. Took me quite a while to sort it out - not that it s broken but also not ideal, and because of it my partner didn't take a proper shower that morning. Also the beds are quite sqeeky, and a little hard for me personally. I think the price is not bad though for what it is but some parts of it do require a bit of work, wallpaper, shower head etc.

Location is great, good country escape. Pubs are 1-2 miles away so not too bad. Price is not bad at all. The common areas are also not bad and have been kept clean.

For the price it’s not an issue but some decorating and mould control is needed.

A perfect base for a walking group, cheap accommodation that has loads of room downstairs with excellent facilities. Comfy bed, good shower and fab location.

Basically free range with no staff presence at the property to provide information or assistance (though staff were contactable via an 'emergency telephone')

Nice building and common areas (lounges, garden, well-equipped kitchen), well positioned for hiking but a bit remote from amenities such as shops.

Unsure if there is a common toilet downstairs. I hope they provide more dishwashing liquid too.

Big kitchen, lots of walking trails nearby, has garden with river, very spacious bathroom, they provided us 4 single beds with towels without rent!!!

There were no plugpoints near the bed, and a chair would have been nice to have.

My room (number 16) was a little cramped for a double and although it had a desk there was no chair.

It was a little dated decor wise, could do with a freshen up but not vital. It was clean and good for walkers with dogs

Huge garden for the dog to run around safely with so many walking options. There is also a station for the narrow gauge train right outside. You just put your hand out like a bus

No toilet roll was available so bring your own and some of the bath was stained, but everything appeared clean still, remote for TV didn't work and the dvd player inside the TV didnt work which was a shame but not the end of the world.

Loved the large room with very large comfy bed and it was a nice character property with gorgeous gardens with a stream. Nice powerful shower with hot water, fast WiFi! Enjoyed the fridge in the shared kitchen with ice maker! Towels were a nice suprise thank you :) the location is exceptional never wanted to leave so many things to do nearby including walking up to tongue pot for a swim, the eskdale railway, hardknot pass is fun but not for the faint hearted, the roman Fort, woolpack Inn does yummy food and drink, close to wasdale which is beautiful.

Did request two single beds, but was given a double. Wasn't too bad in the end though, shattered after day of hiking.

Good value for money. Beds comfy, shower was nice and powerful. Great location for climbing Scafell (about 20 mins away) and other lovely hikes. Was able to check in later too, which was a bonus.
