How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Charging £30 a night for our dog seemed excessive.
Comfortable room with lots of space and storage. Clean and tidy and well maintained. Wonderful location for exploring the Borrowdale valley. Staff very attentive, professional and friendly.

Having time slots for breakfast as stated above. Should be flexible.
Comfortable beds and clean cosy bedrooms, open fire lounges nice and relaxing. Close to Keswick centre. Fantastic breakfast and service, only negative point was having time slots for breakfast think this should be flexible to suit guests.

Our room was a bit small and we struggled with all the dog gear, if we had not had our dog with us it would have been fine. Next time I will request a larger room even if it means I pay more. We stayed here before with our dog and it was a bigger room which was fine.
Vast majority of hotel is very good, this is a very good hotel and having a relaxed environment for our dog is excellent.

Bedroom slightly small but didn't spoil our stay.
Very comfortable hotel. Nice and clean with lots of places to sit and relax. Food very well presented and tasty. Staff very friendly. We had our dog with us who was made very welcome! Great location for the Derwentwater walks.

Too many dogs, I struggled with my asthma. Unfortunately for me everyone seems to have a dog these days and I didn’t realise until the day I arrived the hotel does have some rooms which dogs are not allowed to stay in.

The only complaint I would make would be that the room We had was cold even though the radiator was on full most of the time .
Staff , Rooms , Reception , Food all great , would definitely come again .One of our favourite hotels in the Lakes .

The lady on Sunday 14th, we were ‘waiting’ to check out as you could only check out at 7:30a. I saw her arrive and went over to ask to check out and she was still in her coat and almost sighed and said “I’ve not even log into my computer yet” which I think was unnecessary to say. She checked me out, didn’t ask how our stay was or a even goodbye was just a shame to end our hotel experience like that.
The breakfast was superb and the lady who was working Sunday 14th Jan called us in when we were booked to eat at 7:30am, she was friendly, polite, and very helpful. She was a credit to the hotel!

Over the top Christmas decorations, too many plastic trees. Half the amount would still be a lot. Very bright overhead lighting in dining room, needs toning down.
Location, lounges with open fire & still had old prints on wall etc, lots of character. Bar area nice. Food very good.

Check in very slow even though we’d done it online Food on the whole good apart from one bad meal, but they did it at a discounted rate.

The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel and our room was warm, comfortable and inviting. The food was of a high standard and the service, despite an obvious shortage of staff - which appears to be true of many places at present, was excellent and attentive. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Some reception staff really quite unfriendly. The dark haired girl didn’t ask on checkout how things were and was very unapproachable throughout the stay. Seemed to have a poor attitude and didn’t want to engage with guests. Male reception staff were great. Bar/Restaurant staff were great, but very overworked and the poorly managed with long delays in food, drinks and other requested items
