Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRoom was quite small for the price despite the fabulous view. The tiny lift needs to be changed for the older guests.
Amazing sea view and excellent food in the restaurant for a visit to the nearby Eden project.

Lovely hotel in a wonderful location. I booked a single room as I was on my own walking and just needed a bed for two nights. The Reception team upgraded me to a very comfortable double room and I had a great stay. Staff could not have been more helpful and even my soaked, muddy walking boots in their drying room. Highly recommended.

United KingdomThere were many children staying at the hotel and they were a little noisy (even quite late at night) but it didn’t persist long enough to make a complaint. It was Easter holidays so to be expected.
I was familiar with the hotel, having stayed more than once about 50 years ago and having lived around the corner from it growing up. Breakfast was fabulous value at £7.50 with hot, cold and freshly cooked options. Parking was free which is rare these days and an absolute bonus. I paid £75 a night for a single but was upgraded to a double at checkin.

United KingdomThe only thing I would say is that the 'Taste' restaurant felt more like a side room/overflow dining area and lacked any character or vibe of its own. Needed to be warmer, music a bit louder and a bit quicker/more attentive service. Excellent food but at similar prices to the main restaurant we felt like we'd made the wrong choice. However this was just one meal and maybe the high standard everywhere else made this seem not as good rather than in any way bad.
Carlyon Bay Hotel is a wonderful and characterful hotel in a beautiful setting. Staff were very professional but approachable/friendly. The atmosphere was refined yet relaxing. Entertainment was so well run and presented, enjoyable for all the family. The Spa was clean, well run and great facilities/treatments. The food was fantastic and breakfast was a real treat. In all areas there were plenty of staff which meant very quick and attentive service at all times. It was really noticeable that the 'as and when' activities like, putting, tennis and snooker weren't over policed or too strict which meant just filling a half hour here and there was effortless. The Fun zone staff were lovely and really encouraging and we felt they really wanted as many kids as possible to have fun and take part. The external activities like the Bushcraft/axe throwing guys were amazing, as were the magicians and the golf instructor. It's really clear that making people feel looked after, special and generally taken care of is top of the priority list and this seems to have been done by selecting the right people and training them exceptionally well so as to make it feel effortless and in no way over the top. Not to be forgotten are the room staff who seemed very hardworking and always noticeably friendly and engaging. I'm generally hard to please when paying good money for good accommodation and service, but I'm hard pushed to find anything that wasn't great. Thank you to all the Carlyon Bay Hotel staff.

United KingdomNo negatives at all.
Fantastic position, warm welcome. Wonderfully comfortable bed. (Very important to be able to sleep comfortably) it was the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in other than our own! Beautiful views. The service was excellent and the food superb. We are usually fairly critical but on this occasion, there was simply nothing to criticise. Excellent all round and we intend to revisit. Thank you to all at the Carlyon Bay Hotel.

United KingdomThe spa was okay, a little tired (tiles cracked, loose and missing in the steam room) People were leaving their towels and robes on the limited amount of spa beds when going for treatments and/or lunch, which meant others weren't able to use them. On the plus side, there is a spa-bar that you can use whilst wearing your robes, meaning we managed to find somewhere to sit. Just a bit annoying when the same small groups are taking all the beds, but not actually using them. We would return for the hotel without question, just not necessarily for the spa. It's a very small spa for the size of the hotel.
From the second we arrived, to the moment we left, the staff were utterly perfect! The service was superb, the food was fantastic and the cocktails were sublime!!!! We wanted for nothing during our stay. The staff couldn't do enough for us without being overbearing. We ordered room service breakfast on our second morning and it was absolutely gorgeous!! Our room was spotless, Champagne was lovely and cold on our arrival and the view was stunning. We had the best time and a much needed break. Our room was 106 for reference.

United KingdomOnly issue would be the room didn't have any air conditioning which made it hot at times however we opened the windows which sorted it. there was a loud humming noise when the windows were open which we guessed was from the spa. However it didn't prevent us from sleeping in a very comfy bed so wouldn't be too worries about it.
Room was clean, comfortable and had everything you would need. The towels were changed daily as were tea bags and milk. Breakfast was lovely, great selection of hot food and cereals. Tthe staff were really sweet who were happy to help in anyway. They even asked my girlfriend if she wanted them to remake her coffee because it might have been cold because she didn't drink it within the first 5 minutes! Such lovely people.
