Stale smell in room and bathroom

Although the bar, restaurant and hotel reception areas appear to have been recently refurbished and look great, unfortunately the hotel side hasn't and doesn't! As soon as you walk through some double doors from restaurant side into corridor to rooms, it smells musty, there's stained carpet and the decor is really dated and tired and in dire need of refurbishment. Whether that's a plan for the future..not sure..but it certainly needs to be! The furniture in the room was very old and beaten up with lots of chips and scratches etc. There was a shelf for kettle and tea making which had 'bubbled' and peeled off veneer, a curtain was hanging off rail on one end, only one tie back. Windows were insecure with window closure part with a screw missing and handle with no notch in frame to go into, so wasn't locked properly. Bathroom was again old and tired with mould on ceiling and around toilet. Maybe this is all reflected in price but I expected it to be better.

In a great location opposite the Devil's Punchbowl and very quiet at night. Easy to get to as near to A3. Clean sheets and towels and bathroom was clean. Shower was good. Reasonable price compared to other hotels in area. Nicely refurbished reception , bar and restaurant areas.

It isn't that I didn't really dislike anything. The place is a little old i.e the decor could do with being updated and it could be a little cleaner. But all in all it was alright.

Location was good, staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

The cleanliness of the public areas wasn't great especially the walk ways to the bedrooms needed a good hoover. The bathroom wasn't great and we didn't have any towels in our room.

Breakfast was very good. Would have liked to see on the menu what the continental breakfast consist of. Bed was comfortable the décor definitely needs updating.

Very dated. The rooms and bathroom in particular are in dire need of a refurb. Bathroom mouldy and the shower trickled. The bed and towels were clean but the walls had lots of scuffs and the room could do with a good clean.

The bed was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was good, although no choice of cereal, yogurts and juices. Closest hotel to our family get together.

The food was expensive for what it was. The rooms were clean and comfy but dated and in need of an upgrade. My night was disturbed by drunks banging on the door at 2am. The locals in the bar were loud and drunk.

The location was great. Having a bar and restaurant onsite was perfect.

The room could have done with a deep clean. There has obviously been a damp problem on the bathroom floor as it was patched up with a piece of plywood which creaked and bent everytime you stood on it, as it was in front of toilet you could not help but stand on it !Would have been nice if there was a teaspoon to stir tea/coffee and also a hairdryer. The room is in dire need of a re-furb.

Room/bathroom decor very tired

Bathroom very dated and in need re decorating. Only one bath plug and no sink plug!!!

Very large bed but duvet small pillows terrible.hair dryer no where near the mirror. Overall rooms and buildings looked very tired need decor doing lots of plaster cracks mould around windows etc.

Location very good nearby access to punchbowl walks , quiet once pub shut. Dident have breakfast but had evening meal which was very good.

Having the room made up every day would be nice, had to buy my own toilet rolls, bed not made up, just cover THROWN back on. Tea and coffee not replenished every day A bowl of cornflakes £6 really !!! £7 for scrambled egg on toast rip off

Bathroom shower was difficult to operate

We stay here every Christmas day evening after visiting family nearby. Its a very old hotel but our beds were clean and comfortable and the staff friendly. We feel that the price we pay is very reasonable and it suits our needs.

The hotel has lots of potential however seemed to lack a little TLC and was quite outdated. The carpets were stained and there was some mildew in the bathroom.

I needed a hotel to stay in as I was attending a family get together on Boxing Day.The location suited as it was only a 10 minute drive. The bed was comfortable and over all it was clean enough.

Rooms are basic and very tired. Room was cold on arrival but I had time to put on radiator to warm it up before my return.

Bar not well stocked with wine. Drinks expensive. Rooms could do with updating, especially the bathroom with sealant peeling off and black mould in areas.

Room needs updating. Lampshades were torn, toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. Pillows were so thin.

very tired, dirty/soiled carpets, broken drain pipes, rooms warm, corridor cold, shower didn’t work properly, tap top missing, bed comfortable tho. Laundry left in corridors. restaurant ok, food nice, staff sweet and helpful

The room itself, though fully functional was a bit tired and needed redecoration. The Pub and restaurants have been recently been renovated, but not the rooms it seems.

The room was very cold as it was 2° overnight with single glazing and no heating on. The decor was dated. Some mold on the bathroom ceiling. Loo paper very thin, pillows quite flat.

The room was very quiet. Bed quite comfortable. Close to the devils punchbowl and a lovely cafe.

Bedrooms clearly need a good clean and update, mould in bathrooms, extractor fan not working in one bathroom.

Friendly helpful staff, able to put bicycles in rooms.

Smell of damp in the room,long wait for food; not at all disability friendly and I am sure fire equipment should be on a wall!!!!.
