Little issues that if spotted early enough would have led me to leave an ‘exceptional’ rating. On-the-hoof maintenance negatives included: a dead pigeon in the gutter at the rear of the hotel and grass growing in the gutter above the entrance to rooms at the rear (overlooking the beautiful garden). There were brown stains (probably scorch marks) on the edge and foot of our sheets - although they see clearly freshly laundered. Paint was peeling off the window frames at the rear of the bedrooms and plaster/paintwork was stained and peeling off the wall of the breakfast room.

Modern twist on a centuries-old coaching house. Much thought has been put into the decor and comfort of the recently refurbished hotel and the Prevost restaurant is a delight. The staff from check-in onwards were exceptional.

What a great find of a hotel. This location suited our needs as a halfway stop between visiting North/South. A lot of work has gone into this hotel and we will definitely be staying again.

The hotel is really lovely, nice location gardens and walking by the river, the grounds are very tidy. easy to find, parking is easy and well set out, the rooms were very comfortable and clean, coffee teas were very good, showers are really good and powerful, totally dog friendly, food was very good, steak is melt in the mouth the staff in the restaurant are really good and can't do enough for you, breakfast really tasty and a good selection. Top marks to the staff they're all really friendly and go out of the way to help, special mention for Rachel a really lovely person who made us very welcome especially Teddy and Skye our dogs, she was marvellous.

The bar was understaffed and did not do many cocktails. We ate at Prevost, so cannot comment on the bar food but the sparkling wines that we had were rather flat.

Beautifully redecorated hotel, in a lovely village (albeit close to the A1). The staff were very friendly and the bedroom was luxurious. The breakfast was excellent.

Absolutely stunning hotel. The staff were super friendly. The receptionist could not do enough for us, gave us a guided tour, organised extra towels and just made the whole experience so friendly. Restaurant was excellent and again super staff. The room was lovely, super clean and had all the essentials including a huge TV and coffee the shower was amazing.
