How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Rooms/floor lacked insulation so could hear people in other rooms and the entertainment (singer) on the ground floor, though was able to get to sleep. Parking seemed a bit limited so if arriving in the evening etc you may struggle to find a space out front.
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice building with large staircase and reception area - felt like Scotland.

Arrived at 2.50 for 3pm check in only to be told the time had been changed to 4pm without prior notification, staff member simply would not let us in despite our room being ready, very annoying after a 5 hour drive. Checkout had also been changed from 11am to 10am again without prior notice, is this acceptable?

The room was right above the cooking exhaust so we had to keep the windows closed to avoid the very fatty smell coming in.

We could hear every footstep from the room above and they were awake at 6am! The toilet didn’t always flush and the fan didn’t work in the bathroom. The breakfast was disappointing and the coffee was awful.
I loved the authenticity of the hotel, she would have been a grand lady back in the day. The bed was wonderful! The location was perfect and Strathpeffer is a really cute village.

Entertainment in evenings thursday was good but friday no atmosphere even if Scottish music playing in back ground while having a drink in lounge.

The shower over the bath becomes very slippery and the provision of a non slip mat would make a big difference especially for older people.
Room was basic but adequate. Breakfast was good as was dinner and the staff were very pleasant.

Evening meal and breakfast have both been better on previous visits. I wouldn't let this put me off staying though

Soap dispensers in the room were empty with small alternatives and we needed to request toilet paper as the rolls in our room on arrival were nearly empty. Staff were lovely but a more flattering formal uniform is suggested (rather than black tights on young ladies)
Lovely scenic location. Enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant and evening entertainment, however also suggest eating at the Sweet shop for excellent waffles and wine bar/ cafe for fabulous tasting meals.

Although the shower was clean, the pressure was very low. Some of the staff we interacted with weren’t exactly polite.

Poor, old bathroom. Hotel is very old and you can notice it in every step. Not in a good way sadly.

Aside from refurbished rooms, the rest of the hotel is from another era. Grand and spacious, but outdated. There is an elevator, for example, but when you get in you say a little prayer.
Room was comfortable, quite big, large and comfortable bed. Room seemed to have been recently refurbished.

Old, worn and no insulation. No one even bothered using wd-40 or so into doors which ALL creaks like HELL.

The hotel feels rather dated. While the room has been renovated, the common areas show signs of age—at times hinting at past grandeur, but more often reflecting years of insufficient maintenance.
