The beds are not pleasant for a longer stay or I was just unlucky, but the matress was stabbing me every night of the stay. Sometimes I found myself looking for sharp things I was sleeping on, only to find out it was the matress springs. The bunk beds are also incredibly low so I bumped my head into the metal frame a lot. Should be fine if you're staying for a day or two. The big rooms are also very crammed, so they become a bit smelly. It's also not the cleanest of accommodations; there's mold in the bathroom and rooms are extremely dusty (even though the staff vacuum and clean every day).

The best part was the location as the hostel is situated directly by Haymarket station. Our second favourite part was the open terrace; if the weather is nice you can eat, drink or just hang out outside. It's also a smoking area. We got little lockers to store out valuables. The kitchen was cool, we had everything we needed (fridge, oven, microwave, drinkable water) - also, free coffee and tea for the whole time the kitchen was open. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. There's a lounge room with a bunch of board games, so even if you stay inside the hostel you have a lot of entertainment.

I would provide at least one socket for each bunk bed, as it can be useful for work travellers to charge their devices near. Close the bathroom windows, as it was not possible to do so.

Obviously, given that the city is very expensive, ‘The Hostel’ allows you to stay overnight at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is friendly and peaceful, even for work travellers.

Easly hit my head in the middle of bunk beds (3tiers). A bit tough to get good sleep. Shaking like earthquakes every bunk beds mates are turning bodies.

Perfect location. It takes 10-15 min from The main train station by tram, bus. Cinema night. Huge windows in common area with sofas. Plus, I am impressed the chief's speech in their staff/volunteer meeting. And very very reasonable to stay in Britain.

Quite a lot of people in a small space with the 3 stacked bunks if everyone is in at the same time. It's hard to get sleep with so many people moving around at different times. Not to the fault of the hostel, but we had lots of disrespectful people during our stay. The staff did the best they could with that I believe. But even so, with mixed gendered bathrooms and stacked bunks it was intimidating for my lady to use the facilities due to that.

Friendly staff, beds were clean, nice selection of areas to hangout, and a small but nice kitchen. Was everything a hostel should be and more. If you get a good roll of the dice with who's staying there it will be a wonderful stay.

The room was not big enough for the number of bunkbeds in it. There was no much space to move around them and unfortunately people was leaving stuff on the floor what made it even harder.

Great location, plenty of coffee shops around. Close enough to the center. The showers are very nice for a hostel. There is a nice garden where you can chill.

Bathrooms were a bit eh, which I guess is expected from hostels in general. I couldn’t figure out how to have hot water water running for a long time so I had to fidget and have lukewarm, or it would come in cold and hot waves.

The location, the board games, the shared spaces, the room. The staff managed to upgrade us the second night to the 6 bed room, but we almost paid 90£ for this (and we’d already paid 180£). Eventually it was cleared out and we got upgraded for only 3£

I wish the kitchen could’ve been opened earlier. I was here for four nights total, and three of those mornings I would’ve liked to have access to boiling a kettle and making myself a cup of coffee before 8 AM. The facilities are old, but as well-maintained as possible. And I wish I could’ve been in a room with non-snorerers, but it’s the lack of the draw! I met some very interesting people and all seemed intent on having a quality vacation while saving money.

This hostel was in a perfect location to see many things in Edinburgh, and access trains and buses. It seems to be staffed mainly by volunteers, and I really feel that they pour their hearts into their jobs.

Maybe to have more cleaners during the days for the toilets and bathrooms (one time during the morning and another time during the afternoon).
