The weather!! even Mark was not able to change it.

Mark & his staff made my wife and I very welcome and comfortable during our stay. The food from the menu was superb and the meats were all locally sourced and very tasty and good value for money. The cask beers were bright and well kept, the wines were fresh and very drinkable.

We enjoyed our stay but I think it will be even better when the work Mark has planned has been done. Our bathroom needed work and there were a few organisational things to work on as in any new business.

Mark is a lovely host who is keen to make everyone welcome. Enjoyed talking to him very much. The food was really good, the location fantastic, with great views, and despite being on a main road, lovely and quiet. We had a great night's sleep, no noise from the bar downstairs or other guests.

The bathroom was dated but they did say they're in the process of updating them....Rome wasn't built in a day bless them. The mattress was uncomfortable too. The television was tiny but better than nothing. The room is very small but we were only staying one night so it wasn't a massive problem.

The hosts were absolutely out of this world. They made us feel like family and helped when we forgot a few essential items. The breakfast was so delicious and the location is stunning.

I wish that I had thought up the short sentence that summed up our stay.................................Haha. Arrived as Strangers, Departed as Friends

Quaint little Pub with rooms. We Loved The Lantern Pike and the new owner (Mark) makes this place special. Very welcoming and always smiling. Superb Host. He has great vision and enthusiasm for the forthcoming upgrade/refurb of the rooms, property and carparking. Interesting, friendly and comical, this seems to have rubbed off on the 'few' staff Mark has left. Some left his employ because they couldn't hack his high standards. It's all about standards and training. The Lantern Pike will do very well under Mark and the team and we will definitely stay again. We had dinner and breakfast, all cooked to order and fresh produce used. All cooked perfectly by Mark. It's very early days for this new owner but you can already feel that it's going to be the place to be in Hayfield. Thank you Mark. J n B

I know it's early days for the owner, and he has great plans. However I do think a breakfast menu is needed. The waitress was lovely and polite, however when we were asked what we wanted everyone had to ask what was available. A breakfast self service area with a starter choice would be great as everyone had to sit and wait without food while the cooked breakfast was being prepared. It wasn't clear if 2 courses eg cereal followed my a main breakfast was available. The breakfast itself was fine when it arrived. The WiFi didn't connect in the bedroom so something to bear in mind if travelling for work. Teething problems I'm sure and I wish the new owner all the very best in his new venture.

Lovely old pub and a friendly welcome. It's currently undergoing refurbishment so the bathroom, whilst having great potential, wasn't quite up to scratch. Bed was comfy and tea making facilities were fine. We ate in the pub that evening and the food was lovely.

    Nothing

Mark, the new owner of the property went out of his way to make us feel welcome and to seek feedback from us on what was his first day of ownership. He is working very hard on trying to make improvements to the Inn within the planning limitations open to him. The food in the bar in the evening was very good and reasonably priced. The breakfast was just right.

Either the shower or the toilet was leaking a generous amount of water onto the bathroom floor, we used towels to soak up the water. Had to check out early, there was no option for an early breakfast takeaway option but Pauline gave us some bread, butter and jam the night before checkout to have in the morning which was very much appreciated

Room and bathroom was very clean. Very quiet despite being above a pub. Halloween party was happening the night we arrived, was great to participate. Very close to one of the peaks. Managed to get a parking space. Room was small and a little chilly but very cosy. One of the staff members we met called Pauline was lovely and very friendly! Also a very young female member of staff working the night of the 27.10.23 was also very friendly and helpful. The customers in the pub were a very friendly bunch of people. We let Chris the landlady know we were arriving late and she carried our booking over to the next day which we appreciated, thanks Chris!

Rooms are tired. Evidence of mold. They need a good overhaul. Christine was very grumpy when we arrived and made us feel not wanted as guests. Told us that we were early, that it was the end of the season, we should not have been allowed to stay just one night and that the heating would only be turned on at 5pm (it was nearly 1pm). Pauline, on the other hand, was nice and served us a great breakfast the following morning. All in all, an unfortunate end to our trip after we had high expectations.

The almost uncrossable problem is the busyness of the road. Our room was at the front of the house and, with windows open, as we need, the noise was deafening. Sadly it disturbed our night badly - further complicated by a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain!! Nothing anyone could do about it which is why I still have given good marks. Perhaps rooms on the other side are quieter.

I wish I could give top marks in every respect, because this is a lovely old inn and it is an excellent position for walkers in the High Peak. The breakfast was hearty and the staff team friendly, helpful and very welcoming.

Shower could have been more simple to use.

A cute & traditional pub, a perfect base for a weekend hiking and eating in the Peak District. The included breakfast was a perfect start to the day. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub dog was adorable. Chris was accommodating to our late check in and Pauline couldn’t do enough to help us and make sure we were comfortable.

There wasn't anything that I disliked, the accommodation is what you'd expect in a public house and has all the basic needs.

The Staff and locals are very friendly and made us feel more than welcome. It's in a perfect location for access to all areas for walking etc. Good, home cooked food is also a bonus!
