Overall just a little tlc is needed in places. It's a beautiful building and has great potential. Paintwork needed, clean carpets, a better shower. Window sills clean in breakfast room etc

Food was really good. Especially evening meal. Good value for money.

While clean and comfortable a bit of renovation is needed just to give the building the justice it deserves. Didn’t affect my stay.

Walking distance to Malton Town, nice bar area and grounds.

Rooms were a little tired and old fashioned.

The hotel upgraded our room. Lovely building and grounds. Ample parking and helpful staff. Clean.

The property is in desperate need of care and attention as well a very deep clean. Mould, cobwebs everywhere, damp patches, cracks in walls, poorly fitted bathroom furniture as well as doors. Just tired and all a bit grubby. Shame really as it could be stunning. I have allergies which were impacted as I was sneezing and bunged up so didn't sleep well although bed was comfy. I did mention this to the lady on reception as I left and she said she would inform housekeeping but feel it needs more than that, although it'd be a good place to start.

We were in the Old Lodgings building just down the road from the main house. Perfect location for Malton centre, all within easy, walking distance. Friendly staff and room ready early which was an unexpected bonus. Room was nice enough and was sustantial for what we needed for a night away.

It’s not a don’t like, but the building is obviously very old and holds a lot of character. There were a few damp patches on the ceiling and the room had an old musty smell. This honestly wouldn’t put me off staying again and play on booking for this coming June for York races!

Perfect location for heading to Pickering and catching the steam train to Whitby. We had originally booked the old lodgings (which is their accommodation down the road) upon arrival we were offered an upgrade at no extra cost to stay in the main building, but hi h was brilliant. Room plenty big enough and spacious bathroom too.

We only had not even half a roll of toilet roll when we arrived. We were going out for a few hours in the evening and asked for some more putting in our room. We were told we would have some put in but when we got back none was there and the reception was then closed and no staff working. Other than that no other complaints. Luckily was a box of tissues on the dressing table we had to use.

Was friendly staff on arrival, clean room, location was closed to shops, nice place to eat.

It’s unfortunately a typical old building with lots of history that’s quiet run down. You expect certain things with an old property that add to its charm but it was not very clean, the electric shower sounded like it ran on a diesel engine. The radiators didn’t have TRV’s on them so you could not mange the temperature. A 24 hour bar is stated but they closed it at 10 both nights we stayed. The breakfast used cheap food which was such a shame for the food capital of Yorkshire. Such a shame as the building has lots of character and could be so much more.

The property is in a great location for visiting Malton, some of the staff were friendly and helpful. Had a comfortable bed.

Very basic room, odd decor choices. Loud piping that broke sleep, was on the west side of the house. Extension leads plugged into extension leads!!

Beautiful place on the outside and gardens. Parking easy. Lovely dining room and reception was great and simple.

Items from the room clean were left in our doorway, located at the top of the stairs for quite some time. Carvings at the top of the bed posts were loose and fell off when we sat in the bed.

Friendly staff, good size room and breakfast was lovely.

The bathroom was dated and compact. We chose to wait until we got home for a shower as it wasn't the best. Some guests who were staying must have had a Groupon or Wowcher deal as they paid a lot less than we did, so might be worth checking before you book.

Bethany on reception/bar was very friendly and helpful. Food was nice and parking was great.
