Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Our own fault, but booking for Grand National Weekend came with a hefty price premium. Only slight downside was the style of food in the restaurant was very similar to the bar food menu.
Staff were fantastic, friendly, willing to help. Breakfast was fabulous and bar / room service food was all great too. Parking was simple and included.

Room 4 was quite hot it felt like under floor heating but might have been pipes ?
Great location and friendly efficient staff at reception and restaurant for both dinner and breakfast - lovely fresh breakfast

Bathroom nice but when next refurb I would go for a shower enclosure and get rid of the bath. Room too warm for me. Stairs but i knew it would be like that. Could do with USB point power outlets. car park very tight.
Friendly efficient staff. Restaurant Food was good, bit overpriced but edible. Bed comfortable. Room door lock bit flimsy. Coffee Tea making facilities good. Room clean.

Only downside is not having a lift!
Location is near Crosby beach and the Gormley sculptures ’another place’ Fantastic breakfasts!! Lots of choice!

A bit too hot at times....
Lovely clean and comfortable hotel friendly helpful staff & great location. Breakfast was great and we had a lovely packed lunch on one of our days too instead of breakfast will definitely use again.

Very friendly and welcoming staff at reception and in the bar and lounge and at breakfast. Parking right in the courtyard in front of the hotel. Easy for getting Mersey rail train into Liverpool and convenient for Crosby beach and Gormley statues.

Some careful thought needs to be given to the “radio/to/music” playing in the bar/lounge/breakfast room. It was not very relaxing or appropriate to the other clientele. You cannot please everyone, so a random selection would be better.

Drinks a tad too expensive but it is a hotel
Lovely location ,friendly staff excellent breakfast plenty of good choice .Good food for evening and bar food .rooms cleaned to a high standard ,comfy bed and pillows .lovely walks to the beach .we will be back regularly as my granddaughter lives a stones throw from the hotel

The royal hotel is set in an amazing location with fantastic views and great leisurely surroundings that suit whatever the occasion. Staff are friendly and welcoming the food and restaurant are 5 star. The rooms are warm and well maintained. I have loved my stay Thank you The Royal hotel.

If I was being very picky - no lift - however it wasn’t really problem for us and the staff will take your luggage up to your room.
Everything. Great location for our purpose. Super comfy quiet room and the shower was amazing - water pressure was excellent. Very comfy bed. Everything was so easy. Service was second to none, very friendly and natural. Food at breakfast was fabulous.

Our only disappointment was that we had a view of chimney pots but the hotel was very busy when we stayed and we booked at short notice so I can’t really complain.
The hotel was in the perfect location for us, close to family, good transport links to Liverpool and Southport and beach walks more or less from the doorstep. The room we had was comfortable and quiet and the breakfast was good. But the best thing of all was the staff. They were, without exception, friendly and helpful. In particular Liz who does the breakfast service was an absolute diamond - nothing was too much trouble for her and although she was busy she still made time for a chat.

Nothing negative to mention during our stay.
Friendly and professional reception staff made our check in very easy after a long journey. The room was of a very high standard. Comfortable bed and the bathroom was immaculate with a nice hot modern bath/shower. At breakfast, we were hosted by the lovely Liz who provided us with a delicious breakfast and good quality coffee. She made sure we were looked after during our meal and gave us some great tips for activities in the local area. Both her and all the hotel staff were great during our short visit. We will definitely use this as a base for future visits to Liverpool.

Real traditional classy hotel, immaculate, full of character, great breakfast and service. Great location on the edge of a lovely park by the marina, a short walk from the sand hills and the river mersey.

Keep on doing what your doing. Its all good.
The hotel was very close to all the delights of waterloo. Breakfast was superb, all top quality produce. All the staff were lovely.
