Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Couldn't fault a thing.
We couldn't fault a single thing. The room was spacious, comfortable big bed, lovely bath in room & separate shower in bathroom. Lovely touchs of handmade Eccles cakes, fridge on landing to get fresh milk & water. Exceptionally clean. Made to order food in restaurant, delicious. Breakfast top notch with local produce. Staff were brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Location superb, by the side of river, lovely and quiet at night. Very highly recommended.

The location is remote, but you should know that when you book. It's so lovely and quiet too. Our room was very warm and only had the one window, but there's an air con unit to mitigate that.
The Spread Eagle is such a lovely place to stay. We had three small dogs with us and they gave us a massive room so we had enough space. It was very warm, but the air conditioner is a great perk. Bathroom was clean and the water pressure amazing. We ate at the pub for evening meals and the breakfast provided was so delicious. Nigel and the team were so lovely and made us feel very welcome.

This was a return visit and we chose the excellent room 3. The staff were helpful, the breakfast and evening meals were great. We shall come again! Great value as it was February.

Our room was suffering a little in the cold, wet weather. Otherwise, a perfect stay.
Lovely, rural location. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Dinner was particularly impressive. Large, well-equipped rooms with individually styled decor: we have now been several times and try to stay in a different room each time. The beds are INCREDIBLY comfortable. Highly recommend.

Superb big, comfortable bedroom, with a lovely river view. Lovely bar and restaurant area, the food was excellent and huge portions too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place.

It rained a lot but that did not stop us enjoying walks.
Very enjoyable stay.in a lovely part of the country. The accomodation was excellent. Rooms spacious and we had lovely river views. The meals were high quality and we quickly decided to eat there. The staff could not be more helpful. We will certainly return.

In a lovely spot. Feels like way out in the country but very close to major roads. Room was spacious and beautifully furnished. Bar and restaurant warm and cosy. Plenty of space and very good food at reasonable prices. Different deals on every night. Plenty of choice at breakfast too. Nigel couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful and that also goes for the army of staff. Walks from the doorstep if wanted. Couldn’t have been happier with our stay.

Is a quite area. Be delightful in summer. Need healthier options on menu. Chips yo well done. Have to be careful crossing road tho car park. Busy corner.
Room and staff polite and friendly. Welcomed are dog. Doggy menu. Doggy blanket and gift box. Local friendly. Breakfast good and good choice. Pub in lovely position in village. Short walk to view Sawley Abbey. Neat A59 to go places.

Some mold and mildew in the bathroom but I imagine it is to be expected in such an old building.
Lovely decor in the bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was lovely and the setting was blissful. Quiet and relaxing - just what was needed! All staff we came into contact with were lovely.
